I hope you like your phone number given to telemarketers by Verizon

I signed up for fios TV, Phone and Internet and now I'm getting constant calls from telemarketers. Up to 7 calls a day. I called Verzon to complain and they told me I could get call blocking at an additional charge. Really underhanded way to squeeze out more cash from my wallet. Thanks Verizon. I will now go out of my way to dissuade anyone from signing up.

Did you get a new phone number or port an existing one?

If you got a new phone number, it's quite common to get one that is well known to telemarketers and collection agents.  This happens because phone companies do not let canceled phone numbers sit unused for more than a few months these days.

If you have FiOS digital voice, it includes call blocking.  You access it through the web and can list up to 10 numbers to block.  This helps if  you keep getting calls from the same numbers.

Good Luck.

I'll add to what gs0b said. If you didn't add the option for an unlisted number which is extra there's no guarantee you won't get calls because the number will be posted to the public, on white pages listings, etc..

Most likely you got a receycled number which is the norm these days.

Make sure your new number is on the national do not call list, never use the number on anything that might lead to the number being sold to 3rd parties, and if the calls are to exessive and don't stop have Verizon give you a new number. They may or may not charge to do this all depending on when it is changed.

I ported my old number which I had for over 10 years and am not about to change now. When I switched to cable from Fios a few years ago, I ported my number then and did not receive any marketing calls. Now after switching back to Fios, the phone is ringing off the hook with spam calls. I have someone who is very sick with cancer at home and these calls are beyond annoying. Also your STBs are lousy now that there is no sleep timer like it used to be. I am not happy at all.

Now whether you have this feature or not you would have to see for yourself by checking on the set top box to activate a feature that does not allow those people to call you. Press menu on the remote then go down to fios digital voice then press ok. After that you will set a list of options which will include calling features. Go to that and press ok where you will see the do not disturb feature where after you press ok to activate it will ask you to confirm the number that is on the screen as the one that you do not want to be harrassed at so activate it if you have this feature. All calls will be fowarded to voicemail after that. You can delete any of those people's messages who are harrassing you and if you have a phone number to report then write it down to contact the ftc (federal trade commission) who will then go after them.
