What kind of landline phone to buy

With all of the IP/VOIP and digital phones out there; what kind of phone do I need to purchase to work with my Verizon service and get full functionality? What will work and what will not?

You only use a IP/VoIP phone with services that uses direct IP connectivity for voice.  Verizon is not such a service.

With Verizon, you get a traditional copper telephone interface on an RJ11 plug.  This is true with traditional copper based phone service, FiOS phone service and even the wireless services they deployed in some Sandy damaged areas. You can use any regular telephone device you'd like.

About the only optional features you might want to consider are a CallerID display and a message waiting light.  Both are pretty standard on most phones these days.  You'd have to find a really cheap phone to not get these features.

Enjoy.
