I have rented my basement to a family that has abused the privilege of using my phone line, and they won't stop! Can I have a password added somehow for outgoing calls? Is there another way to stop this (other than removing the phone line which is too permanent for me, or cancelling the number)? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Force them to use a VOIP service? There really are not any features I can think of that can limit/restrict outbound calls. Assuming, they are using internet from you, you could easily rig a VOIP service to the rest of the phone jacks in your basement fairly easily, depending on how your house is wired.
VOIP is a phone service through the internet such as Vontage, Verizon Voice Wing, etc...but, if they don't have access to your internet, VOIP may not be the anwser. I thought I would suggest that for cost sake. Using a VOIP service is the cheapest way to get someone a telephone number in my opinion.

program your phone. Anytime you want to change your Call Gate features, you may
access the service from any touch-tone phone.
