phone not ringing

Wow. this has been a nightmare since day1!!! We paid for an unlisted number only to be harrassed from sun up to sun down and in the middle of the night by telemarketers. Verizon sent us an apology letter that they mistakenly put our number public. Then our phone stops ringing and goes straight to a verizon voice mail when someone calls. We can make outgoing phone calls but do not get any. We called verizon only to be told that we would have to pay for them to fix the wires. The phone is in my room and the jack is hidden and we dont really use the phone why should we have to pay? I also have been doing an internet search and found hundreds of posts of others having the same problem with verizon. I am going to file a complaint with the BBB to let them know.

I can see how it would be a nice gesture for a company to replace the wiring within your home, but I don't understand why you think that they are responsible for it.  When something is wrong with your water pipes you call a plumber.  When something is wrong with your electrical wiring you call an electrician.  You don't call the water company/electric company.

These are two separate issues.  Verizon messed up with the public TN, but that issue is completely unrelated to the one described above.

It's been 2yrs since we had a verizon landline phone service in the house but I seem to remember for 20 some years paying extra on the bill for inside wire maintenace or something so if something happens inside you are covered for them to fix it.    It was an extra option.  Do they still do that?  I seem to remember if you didn't do that then you were responsible for anything that needed fixing inside.  Mary
