fios vod "fake' channels

Yesterday I realized that new channels called "fios vod" appeared in the guide randomly mixed between real channels. Those are just shortcut to on demand programming and are really useless.

Usually I use the "Subscribed Channels" mode so that I only see channels that I need or want but in this case it does not hide these "fios vod" channels. That's really annoying...

Verizon does not need these kind of tricks to get me to buy on demand programming. I know where where to look for if I want access to on demand movies. After all there already is an On Demand button on my remote.

Please drop these fake channels.

David

Just create a Favoirtes list without those channels and use that. Problem solved....

Certainly not a punishable offense, but I'll view VZ differently.

I'm sorry but I understand anything in your post. "Unethical behavior" Huh? How? What? Why? That is beyond ridiculous IMO. How and why will you view Verizon differently?

Yes, the Subscribed option was in the Beta.

How does using Favorites negate Subscribed? You can still choose Subscribed from the Options list any time, whether you have a Favorites list defined or not.

I don't view the Subscribed function as an enhancement but rather as just a response to many requests from customers who really didn't understand what they were asking for. Now if you really want to watch all of the channels in your subscribed set of channels, fine, it works for you. But my question is, do you really want to have all of those channels, even minus the VOD junk? I most certainly don't, and I really don't think most customers do. But they asked and Verizon responded, gave them what they asked for.

Way back in the beginning of FiOS there was an option to remove from the (full) Guide any channels you did not want to see. People liked that and were unhappy when that option was removed and Favorites was added.

Favorites has been around since 1.6 of the IMG I think. Great feature, works well, just needs a few enhancements like an ability to backup and restore the lists, and transfer lists between STBs.

Have you actually taken the time to understand what Favorites is and how it works? If not I encourage you to do so, I think you will find it a far superior function to Subscribed.

Well, I'll admit that my post wasn't as clear and explicit as it could have been. My complaint was about the new "sneaky" VOD channels listed in the guide, an attempt to run things by us, whether we want to see them or not. Will they appear in the subscribed list, or in the favorites? The intent of the subscribed feature was to remove things one didn't want to see or know about. The "sneaky" VOD's appear to be putting info in that we might not want. One hand giveth, the other hand taketh away, I guess. It's no dealbreaker for me, but I just don't like it. period. end of discussion (on my part, at least). Sorry to have piqued you.

And yes, I use both fav lists (still 1.8) for different functions. I'd actually like to have unlimited (within reason) fav lists.

Hi Jack,

OK, we are good, I just didn't understand what you were saying. Sorry........

Ah, so you are still on 1.8. so you don't actually have Subscribed yet. Well, it gives you everything your chosen package offers - all of the SD channels, all of the HD channels, all of the VOD channels, all of the PPV channels, all of the Spanish channels at 1500 and up, all of the Music channels at 1800 and up, etc. In other words, for me at least, an awful lot of stuff I don't want. Yes, it removes automatically a few channels buried in the normal channel list that aren't part of my package, and it removes the premium channels I don't subscribe to, but that is it. Not worth the effort IMO.

I don't view the new VOD channels as sneaky, rather I view them as a "stupid marketing ploy." I don't like it, but that is just one more reason to always use a Favorites list. From what I see, the VOD channels definitely appear in Subscribed, definitely don't in Favorites, and since I don't think Subscribed offers much that is useful, that is ok for me.

And yes, I agree with you, it would be very nice to have more Favorites lists. Unlimited might a stretch, but maybe 5 or 10? I only use one list now on a regular basis, I create one for special offerings. If I had 5 or 10 available I think I would certainly try to break up the things I have in my current Favorites into separate lists - news, sports, movies, HD other, SD other, etc. Not really sure how I would do it, but I would love the opportunity! One thing I think would be needed would be the ability to give each list a name so it would be easy to tell which was which.

AGREED..    sneaky is also stupid, on their part.

Favorites or not, Subscribed or not. Putting this marketing trash in your face type stuff in the channel line up is just plain wrong. I see enough of it as the first thing that pops up when I press menu. I agree there is a VOD button on the remote, also a menu for VOD. Get the trash out of our line up! YES I DO FEEL STRONGLY ABOUT THIS TOO. How about filling those spaces with more HD channels. Other providers have passed Verizon on the national channel lineup front. And we have FiOS what a shame.

It is like when you walk into a store and you can't keep a sales agent off your back. That doesn't happen as much now days because many places you can't find help when you want to buy things. Verizon is #1 in marketing I will give them that.

Vote here to make it stop.

PS.

Even with using the subscribed channels feature in 1.9, the VOD advertisement channels pop up between the subscribed channels in the guide. So if you only want to see your subscribed channels, you still must put up with the marketing. VOD are not subscribed channels, unless you are only going to show us free stuff that we can view. Someone can always ruin a goog thing like subscribed channels.
