Taxes on bill

I really for the first time sat down and went over my bill and looked up every charge on it.  I was totally shocked.  I am paying for so many taxes and grants and fee's and ect.

But let me say I do luv my verizon fios.

I am just questioning the state and federal govt. taxes

On the Federal Universal Service Fund (USF) charge A monthly, per-line surcharge paid by the customer to recover local companies' contribution to the Federal Universal Service Fund. This fund supports telecommunications and information services in schools, public libraries, and rural health-care facilities. The fund also subsidizes local service to high-cost areas and low-income customers. The FCC regulates this charge.

I grew up in LOW-INCOME- no one every helped us out (tax wise)

The Federal Universal Service Fund (FUSF) rate is reviewed quarterly. This fee helps to keep local telephone rates affordable for all customers and gives a discount to schools, libraries and low-income families.

and the PEG grant:       PEG, Public Education Grant

why do we have to pay for this????

I really don't get it

Re: Taxes on bill

The FUSF on my first 2012 bill just jumped from $2.48 to $2.90 - a 16.9% increase!

Yes, I know this fee can change quarterly, and which appears to happen quite regularly, but this seems to be a bit much.

How is this fee calculated by Verizon?   The information on this charge indicates that it is regulated by the FCC, so was this increase validated by them?

Re: Taxes on bill

I agree, the taxes are crazy with Fios, I pay $15 a month in taxes. Thats enough for a HBO or Cinemax a month!!
