I came close to discontinuing service. (We have three local phone/cable/internet providers). Our Verizon box battery was weak. The recording on the telephone stated that we could pay $39.46 for a new battery. We pay a considerable amount of money for Verizon FIOS and a cell phone family plan. It is Verizon's responsibility to maintain its equipment in my opinion. A lovely young man, Calvin, informed me that I could remove the battery. This is what I did -- for now.

When I signed up for FIOS it was clear that the ONT battery replacement, when needed, was the subscriber's responsibility.
If you don't want to pay $39.46 there are cheaper batteries at Amazon.

Hello,
There is also additional information regarding the Battery Back-up Unit Battery via this link:
relating to battery replacements for free if still under warranty or if you have a protection plan in place.
The video on the bottom section of the webpage shows how the battery can be replaced.
Verizon batteries can be ordered:
over the phone by calling Customer Service at 1-800-837-4966 (will be shipped to you), OR
online via verizon.com/fiosaccessories (will be shipped to you), OR
at a local FiOS TV store (check first to see if they have them in stock and you can pick-up).
Here is a list of local stores: http://www22.verizon.com/support/residential/tv/fiostv/general+support/account+issues/questionsone/8...
Hope this helps!

what happened to customer service? In the past, one would telephone in a problem with equipment or whatever, and someone would come. Our most recent problem was that one of three cable boxes stopped working. After trouble-shooting on the phone, Verizon mailed a new box which we then had to install. We pay close to $600.00 per month for internet/phone/cable at home and a cell phone family plan. I want service!

And more than likely 70% to 80% of that $600 monthly charge on the Quad play (TV/Internet/Home Phone/Wireless) is from cell phone usage.
What happens when one of your family cell phones stops working?
Who do you contact then and how does the cell phone get serviced? 😉
The likely remaining 20% to 30% of your $600 monthly bill is for your residential service (TV/Internet/Home phone), and a small portion of the charge for your TV service. One out of three set top boxes in your home stopped working, which could be due from a variety of reasons.
The new set top box was mailed to your home by Verizon, hence the defective? equipment was replaced. Picking up the equipment at a local store was an option, too.
The set top boxes can be easily connected. Having a technician install the set top box at your home is an option, for a fee.
If there is an actual repair issue for wiring, etc. at your home and it is a chronic problem, then Verizon would more than likely send a technician to your home for resolution free of charge.

If you have to have one of these, which it seems you do, I would recommend just getting the Verizon approved battery and calling it a day. A couple of advantages, in my mind, of ordering the Verizon approved battery:
1) Guaranteed to work effectively with your unit
2) Comes with a warranty
3) Rated as a longer lasting battery (est. 6-8 years)
I'd rather spend the extra $20 for a battery that is going to last twice as long. It just makes (financial) sense in the long run.
The Verizon approved replacement battery is also sold on Amazon.com:
. If the link doesn't work, just search for PX12072 replacement - you'll find it.
They're offering it for $37.95 and, since it is fulfilled by Amazon, there is no shipping cost. It also looks like they are offering a 3-year warranty, versus the normal 1 year warranty offered by Verizon. Not a bad deal.
Just my two cents.
