Re: Samsung Omnia 2

Any word if Verizon is going to lock down the GPS on this model if it comes to Verizon?

Here's a little something to whet your whistle with. :smileyhappy: An Omnia 2 (I-8000) preview from gsmarena. Seems promising indeed. I can't wait! This phone is changing WinMo for the much better and we owe it all to the Omnia! (i900/i910) Oh, my Treo 700w, your days are numbered!

Re: Samsung Omnia 2

Well Thats just great since I just bought the i910 only to find out after the 30 days that Omnia 2 was coming out. I get angry just thinking about it and its all my fault for not researching. Now Im stuck with out an upgrade for 2 yrs grrr. I liked my Omnia until I started researching and read customer exp. testimony...etc... Now they will fix the bugs put it on a new phone and charge 600.00 (monopoly). Just a good reminder ignorance is bliss

Well, you could just put you omnia up for sale on ebay, and then use the earnings towards the omnia ii. Thats what i plan on doing, thats if the Omnia II isnt stripped down like the Omnia was.

Re: Samsung Omnia 2

Well, I went into the Verizon Wireless store on Valkenberg St. in Honolulu, Hawaii today to switch/activate a phone. My wife & I have a family plan and and she bought a new Storm to replace her Dare about a month ago. She gave her Dare to our third family member to replace the EnV she had. While the guy was activating the phone and switching the contact list from one phone to the other, I asked him if he had any information about the new Omnia II. Like when it would be available and cost.

He said that he heard 3rd quarter and July was the "Scuttlebutt". He had no idea regarding cost but he said at this time Verizon has no phone with a cost over $200.00 after rebates except for the HTC phones. These were two year contract prices he was referring to. I didn't ask him about GPS, however.

Now I don't know how privy store salesman are to information like this, heck, for all I know he could be reading this forum and got it here. But on the other hand, maybe he does see company memos and information sheets.

I liked what I heard and would like to get my hands on a new Omnia II as soon as possible. So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that he knew something......

Heh. Don't know what's up but sounds like you got some info for sure. Whether or not it was correct I couldn't say. I went over to my local verizon store in San Diego, CA and they told me they knew nothing about the phone. They were privy to info about some new HTC and RIM handsets on the way but nothing about Samsung. I just told them I'd wait and see, and be back when it was in the store.

Re: Samsung Omnia 2

Now the latest info I've seen is from gsmarena.com on July 3rd.

They report that the Omnia II will start shipping in august, according to Samsung.  It will ship with WinMo 6.1 but will be upgradeable to 6.5 and no cost.   Also it will be priced at 549 Euro.  My estimation is that the price would be about $200 from Verizon based on a 2 year contract. Keep in mind that this is my estimation only. I could be out in left field on those figures. I've been there before...

If you look at www.omnia.samsungmobile.com the information on the Omnia II from Samsung make it look like it'll be a great phone.

So now we wait.....

Re: Samsung Omnia 2

Well I've only had my Omnia for just over two weeks, and I have been very impressed with just about everything when compared to the Palm Treo 700WX I had been using for the previous 2 years. There are a few things that bother me, number 1 being the inability to really view anything when used outside in the sun. I'm not upset about that, as I hadn't seen a phone (that Verizon offers, not IPhone, etc.) that really worked great in this enviroment anyway. I also seem to encounter a great deal of issues with the "screen rotation" or lack there of, or moving for no reason. I've tried adjusting that screen rotation setting from high to low, but still I have alot of issues. There are a few more, however I LOVE this phone and think it's the best I've had.

Welp, all I can say after viewing the link in the previous post on Omnia's website is: I'm SOOOOOOO clad I can return this new Omnia 1, as that Omnia 2 doesn't look like an upgrade to the Omnia 1, it looks **bleep** near or possibly what I never imangined happening ANY TIME soon, and that is a smartphone offered by Verizon that's as good or better than the IPHONE!!!!

That Omnia 2 looks AWESOME!!!! Much better than I was expecting and way more than "simply an upgrade". That thing, when compared to the 1 looks like a different phone.

As I stated I just upgraded to the Omnia 1 about 2 weeks ago, and even though I had knowledge about the 2 release coming soon, I didn't want to wait, and was not expecting it to be "that" much of an upgrade, but from what I've seen above, my Omnia 1 will be returned shortly. I feel so lucky I'm still within that "30 day retrun window". Man, that thing is sweeeeeettttt!!!!!!!!

Re: Samsung Omnia 2

OK. Can someone enlighten me on, a major spec.;  for me, on the "New Omnia 2" that is supposed to be coming out ?   I first saw it on http://www.boygeniusreports.com  a few months ago being shown in one of those "Unboxing" videos.  This one obviously being the "Unboxing" of the new Samsung Omnia 2.  Were my confusion is, in the video as well as the still photos, it showed it having a slide out query (?) keyboard like the HTC Touch Pro, along with the original touch screen.  I checked the links that some of you provided for info on it from sites like phonearena.com, etc., but failed to see or read anything about it.

 SO.  Does anyone know ???  ~Thanks !

Are you possibly confusing the Omnia Pro with the Omnia II?

The Omnia Pro has a slide out "qwerty" keyboard.

(just FYI - QWERTY stand for the first six keys on a standard keyboard)
