Amy's Story Goes International

by Employee Emeritus ‎03-30-2011 11:34 AM - edited ‎03-30-2011 11:34 AM

Telling Amys Story

This week our guest blogger is Lupita Reyes, national program director for the Verizon Foundation.  Lupita blogs on domestic violence prevention issues and Verizon’s Hopeline program. This week she has an important update on "Telling Amy's Story", a powerful documentary that was funded by the Verizon Foundation...

Telling Amy’s Story, a powerful documentary that tells the story of a mother of two who was shot and killed by her husband has been selected as one of eight American films to be screened at a prestigious international conference in Seoul, South Korea.

The documentary, produced by Penn State Public Broadcasting and funded by the Verizon Foundation, was chosen out of almost 300 submissions and will be shown at the International Public Television Screening Conference(INPUT) in May.

We are tremendously proud that this compelling film will have an opportunity to make an impact around the world.

The issue of domestic violence has been a key issue for Verizon and the Verizon Foundation for more than a decade. And, this film also has a personal connection for us. Amy Homan McGee was a Verizon employee.

So far, the documentary has aired on more than 300 public broadcasting stations across the country. And, we’re asking for your help in making sure Amy’s story reaches every community.

Here’s how you can help. Call or email your local public television station and ask them to air Telling Amy’s Story. A complete list of PBS stations and contact information can be found at http://www.pbs.org/stationfinder.

For those in the Los Angles area, KCET will air Telling Amy’s Story at 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 31.

If you’d like more information on Telling Amy’s Story or would like a DVD to share as part of community screening in your area, please reach out to Melody Brown, Verizon national program manager, at melody.a.brown@verizon.com.
