Verizon’s Kathy Brown, Senior VP of Public Policy Development and Corporate Responsibility delivered a keynote speech recently at a conference at Babson College in Babson Park, Mass.
The 5th Annual Energy and Environment Conference, entitled “Entrepreneurship for a Sustainable Future” explored how innovation and entrepreneurship will play a pivotal role in shaping the green economy in years to come.
Kathy’s keynote, which is attached below, opened a day long dialogue with entrepreneurs seeking to find the way to a sustainable energy future. She noted that they are creating the innovation that will allow consumers to make energy choices on cleaner, more efficient ways to fuel their lives.
She told the audience that in the final analysis, we need to move quickly to address the urgent imperative of our time – providing the power to maintain our standard of living and grow our economy. We need to find solutions for the long term; respect what we do not know; be vigilant about the risks we take; and anticipate the unthinkable.
We must ensure that our land, our air, our seas, our drinking supplies – our people – will be preserved and conserved for a millennium.
