Earlier this week I said that I’d post more about the priorities we focused on in our recently issued 2010/2011 Corporate Responsibility (CR) report.
Today’s post highlights “Partnering with Communities”.
In the report we say that we use or financial, human and technological resources to make our communities better and address social issues where our technology can make a positive difference.
This is especially relevant given the extreme weather that has affected a large portion of the country in the past few weeks. If you take a look here, you can see some of our efforts in the state of Alabama to help get people in the communities connected after the tornados.
We also are active in the recovery efforts in Joplin, Missouri, where we have set up a mobile communications store and charging station to help area residents get in touch with loved ones.
Our partnerships extend to giving in the community through the Verizon Foundation; our support for Thinkfinity.org, which provides free online resources for teachers and students; our work to keep families safer through a domestic violence awareness and prevention campaign; and our Verizon employee volunteers who donated more that 730,000 hours of their time last year to causes important to their specific communities.
I will continue to focus on our priorities and let you see how we did on each. I look forward to your comments and thoughts.
Here is an example of Partnering with Communities from the 2010/2011 CR Report:
