Today our guest blogger is Al Browne, Verizon Foundation Vice President for Education & Technology.
Al is responsible for advancing the use of technology in education, including bringing high-quality online resources to teachers and students via our Thinkfinity program.
Thanks to all the teachers and members of the WeAreTeachers online community who voted Verizon’s Thinkfinity.org as one of the top five websites for free online classroom resources. We are proud to be recognized and commit to continue to use our technology, our employees and philanthropic dollars to invest in advancing education in the U.S.
We commend and thank our friends at EdNet and WeAreTeachers for their diligence and commitment to education. We appreciate your membership of classroom teachers who evaluate and recommend online resources to other educators. . EdNet - the education business network - you do great work. The voice you give teachers to ensure high quality and best-in-class practices get showcased and shared more broadly is spot on.
I personally know what it is like to see teachers have access to high quality resources. Growing up in a home with a mother who early in her career ran a small private school I have seen firsthand how new and high quality resources can enhance the teaching and learning experience which leads to new ideas and problem solving strategies. For example, at St. Philips Academy in Newark, NJ, I saw first-hand how kids collaborate and take control of their own learning, through the use of Thinkfinity's interactive games.
I have seen Middle schools students, bravely and passionately collaborate with classmates at an interactive whiteboard in front of their friends, and cheer one another on. This is truly the vision as kids take a role and charge of their learning experience.
I'm proud that Verizon is sponsoring Thinkfinity; that our partners are exciting students; that it is encouraging teachers to challenge themselves with new strategies and tools for reaching their students; that teachers are sharing and learning from each other in the Online Community; and of course, that it is free.
Have you checked out Thinkfinity.org? Whether you’re a parent, student or teacher there’s something there for you. I look forward to reading your thoughts and feedback on Thinkfinity and the Thinkfinity Community in the comment section below.
