If you’ve ever seen even one of our ads on TV, you come away with one core message: Verizon… It’s “The” network.
It’s with that message in mind that I’ve been going around the country inviting people to join the network effect. I’m not asking folks to become Verizon customers; although, I’m obviously not opposed to that.
I’m asking customers, employees, community members and our business and nonprofit partners to get involved in sustainability, share new ideas, and when possible to support our sustainability efforts.
In 2009, energy conservation and recycling efforts at Verizon cut CO2 emissions by more than 793 million pounds, but we want to do more.
I’m asking folks to build on our results by finding convenient, lower-carbon alternatives: Receiving and paying your bill electronically; printing double-sided, black & white; recycling your eWaste like old mobile phones and chargers; skipping a trip by using a DVR to rent a movie and Web conferencing instead of traveling for meetings. These actions all have a positive impact on our individual and collective carbon footprints:
As the network company, we operate under the belief that the value of something increases as more people use it. So when it comes to increasing the sustainability of our operations, we’re asking you to join the network effect.
