Add an option to hide channels that I don't subscribe to

Status: Launched
by ACABThomas on ‎08-02-2010 08:44 PM

Currenly there's no way AFAIK to hide unsubscribed channels in the guide and when hitting channel up/down - this is ridiculous.  Clearly Verizon removed this feature in order to advertise these additional channels in hopes of getting people to subscribe to them and spend more money.  Well all it does is **bleep** people off (see the forums), so please add this option.

Yes, I know I can use Favorites to do something similar, but it's a pain to setup, and Favorites should be for my Favorites, not for "all the channels that I pay for".  There should be a single option, "Hide unsubscribed channels", and it should be selected by default.

There is a way to set the guide to only show subscribed channels.

Use this link for details: http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-TV-Technical-Assistance/Channels-I-m-not-subscribed-to-are-showing...

Using your remote use the following steps:

Menu -- Settings -- Television -- Last Viewed Guide State -- Enable (as checked)

then go to Guide -- Options -- Subscribed Channels

From this point when you click on the guide you should only see subscribed channels on the guide listing.

Please note, if STB is reset, you will need to follow steps again.

Yes, this feature used to exist where you could hide any channel you didn't want to see in the guide, even if you did subscribe to it, like the Adult channels. After it was taken away and people complained, they said it would be back in a future release. That was about 3 years ago!

You can have two sets of favorites. One for all subscribed channels and the other for the ones you like. I know idealy you would want multiple favorites and not use one for all suscribed channels. But this may be something you could do until something else comes up.

I agree Verizon's STBs should have it. My Tivo has it.

I agree.

I'd also like to see more than just 2 sets of favorites, and I'd like to be able to name them.

I agree.

I hate trying to find what I paid for, amid the pile of other movies.

Also, when searching for a movie they don't even put an icon or a name to let you know if the movie is from Encore, HBO, ShowTime etc. You have to guess and hope that you don't get a popup memo stating that you do not subscribe to that particular package.

I am a programmer, by hobby, and I can fix that mess. They should hire me.

Can someone explain why I can select "My Channels" from...

... but not on my STB?
