Instead of having us download and install yet another media management application (VZ Media Manager), how about just supporting DLNA, so that existing DLNA servers can work with the FiOS TV box?
Windows Media Player on Windows Vista/7 already provides a DLNA server. I see no real reason why VZ Media Manager is necessary.
I understand Media Manager is required for us to be able to access YouTube on our boxes, but surely that functionality can be broken out into a smaller application that can run as a service on Windows, instead of this giant, memory-hogging thing that must run in the foreground all the time...
Yes, your software that is on the Motorola STB/HDDVR should be DLNA becuase the Media Manager is horrible! For some reason it worked fine on my Vista 64 bit machine, but when I loaded 7 64 bit (fresh install, not upgrade), the DVR won't see it. Plus, it won't run unless someone is logged in, you should be able to set it as a service.
Also would be nice is the ability to watch programs (that aren't copy protected) on a PC or laptop within the home, like you can with Tivo To-Go. Right now the only option would be if you had a Media Center PC with cable-card tuner.
You should post this as an idea... so it gets capture in the nifty idea database... as opposed to buried in the comments

When it supports DLNA, you need to make sure it works with something link PlayOn that plays NetFlix on DLNA.
I would also suggest adding some controls - ff, rew and such. and statistics and logs to indicate the connection level (in Mbps) so the user would be able to know if he could stream some higher quality content like HD.
btw, is there a timeframe for this upgrade ?
I agree with the DLNA request. There are many other DLNA servers both hardware and software that are available and have been out for years. Supporting DLNA on the STB's will make me glad I switched from DirecTV - which has had that option for over 2 years. I see that the TV widgets is out and running - that should be a great place for things like Netflix, Youtube, etc. so don't mess up the DLNA by trying to include too much.
Last Comment, has there been any progress on this since October 2010?
Any progress made?
It would be a nice alternative to the media manager that does run on linux (most NASes are linux based).
