Carrying Universal Sports in more areas

Status: Acknowledged
by Yarotsky on ‎03-02-2011 12:15 PM

I go on the Universal Sports website and type in my zip code, and it says Universal Sports is carried here (in Catonsville, MD) on channel 464, but there is no channel 464 on my box. I'd really like to be able to get this channel, because there's so much they show that I don't get to see. Other places near here have it.

Universal Sports is an NBC channel. Not carried by WBAL. It is carried by WRC in DC. Do you get chanel 4? If not, that is why you don't get Universal Sports.

Universal Sports is available in my area (New York) but only in SD, while other service providers offer it in HD.

Please add Universal Sports HD to the lineup.

Thanks.

It would be nice to have it in HD indeed. Thanks.

The Universal Sport channel (464) we are watching displayed a message saying the channel may only be available to DirecTV as of 1/1/2012. We need Verizon to keep this channel in the line-up or else we will have to switch to DirecTV.

I tried to start a different discussion related to the fact that people who do receive Universal Sports may lose it on 1/1/12. I am disappointed that the moderator has labeled my thread as "duplicate" as the original idea for this discussion is clearly about Fios carrying the Universal Sports station in more areas whereas my post was concerned about the channel being dropped from those who do have it.

Below is what I wrote in regards to losing this station, and I regret that the moderator could not see the difference between these two discussions as I believe we are approaching Fios with different requests.

"I am concerned that Verizon Fios may be dropping the Universal Sports channel in January. This is one of my preferred channels that airs sports content you simply cannot get anywhere else. I would be greatly disappointed if this channel was no longer available. If anything, Verizon Fios should be moving to offer it in HD. I would hate to have to cancel my Fios subscription and move to DirectTV because Fios is dropping Universal Sports. "

I agree with USportsfan - please do NOT drop Universal Sports from FIOS on 1/1/12.

I was informed today by someone that NBC will no longer be carrying Universal Sports as one of their stations as of January 1st.  This would mean that it's not in fact a Verizon issue, but rather a NBC issue.  It sure would be helpful if someone from Verizon could verify this information.

My wife and I have not subscribed to cable tv since 2002.  She wanted to start a subscription so that we could reliably get Universal sports (right now we get it OTA and it's sometimes a bit spotty) and possibly save the broadcasts for future viewing with a DVR.  Once we get settled and get a few pieces of a small home theater set up, I was planning on subscribing to Verizon FIOS as it seems like a solid service.  However, if Verizon discontintues Universal sports, there's no realistic way we're going to subscribe--she won't want it anymore, and I've done alright on the OTA channels.

Losing that channel is pretty much a deal-breaker.  I know a lot of people ask for a lot of channels, but realistically many of them aren't going to abandon the service over the inclusion of one channel.  Most of the people who enjoy Universal Sports, however, have a great deal of loyalty to that particular channel and very little loyalty to most other channels.  Furthermore, coming from a position of not having subscribed to any form of paid television except for Netflix, I can honestly say that we'll happily live without the service unless it is part of some reasonable package (prime or the next one), so you should certainly count us a lost subscription.

Thanks for your consideration.  I look forward to enjoying your service, but only if Universal sports is part of a package.
