DVR option: don't record partial episodes

I would like an option on my DVR to tell it not to record partial episodes.

Here is one scenario that happens a lot on my DVR.  Suppose I have three shows trying to record at 8:00.  The highest priority show is 30 minutes, and the other two are an hour.  Clearly the lowest priority show doesn't record.  At 8:30, one tuner is freed up, so it starts recording the lowest priority show, already in progress, halfway over.

To add insult to injury, many channels replay shows 3 hours later.  Since I've already got the partial episode recorded, the DVR doesn't bother trying to record it again, even though it could get the full hour on the later airing.

I would assume this frustration is shared by anybody who also has a lot of material queued up to record.  I don't mind if something gets skipped entirely, but I don't want to see only part of a show.

I understand that some folks might prefer this behavior, which is why I ask to be given the option.

If this has been suggested previously, then I apologize.

Maybe it should be an option but I like the way it is currently especially for sports.

You could always set the 3rd recording in manual mode for that last half hour..

I always set my recordings for new shows only so I don't have a backlog of shows to filter and delete. I also run into an issue since the DVR records 2 shows and you have to watch one of them since you can't watch a 3rd, which to me makes no sense. If I try to schedule a new show for the second showing so I can free up the TV to watch something I can't get it to record the second showing because the word new is not on it. I guess I am spooiled since I came from another company that allows you to record 2 and watch a 3rd.

I would LOVE to have some sort of automatic conflict rescheduling on the DVR - if there are more than two shows that are set to record at the same time and one of them is coming on a bit later, automatically set the later broadcast to record the later episode.

I run into this a lot - I record a couple of the primetime news shows and then watch them in the morning while I'm eating breakfast or working out.  All of them are rebroadcast three hours later and I would love for it to automatically pick up the rebroadcast if it can't get the original.

Mistaya - It is true that you can't watch a third live show if you're recording two others. But you do realize that you can watch another PREVIOUSLY RECORDED show while watching two others.

I've learned that the New show listing is not reliable, so I do not use it. Also, some programs show past material with a new introduction and label it as New.

And finally, I've learned that some episodes are not the episodes listed in the description. For instance, Tavis Smiley and Charlie Rose often depart from their schedules. So I have actually have to look at the beginning of a show to see what it really is.
