Funimation

Status: Not Likely
by animexsoldier on ‎02-15-2012 10:04 PM

You all are planning on dropping Funimation?  This is a very dumb move imo.  You have a ton of people that are Verizon Fios customers solely for this channel.  This is the only channel you are able to watch "real" anime and I along with alot of people from what I see just googleing "Fios to drop funumation"  came here mainly for that channel.  There are NO real anime channels beside this, how could the ratings possibly be that low.  This channel is no lie on at my house at least 8 hours a day.  This is the channel that runs even while I am on my pc not watching TV.  Go find another "actual" crappy channel to cut.  I can't imagine many people watch cartoon network anymore now that Adult Swim is filled with stupid shows a 4 year old could do a better job on and comedies that are the dumbest thing I have ever seen.  If you cut this channel Verizon I asure you, that you will lose ALOT of customers.

Status: Not Likely
Unfortunately Funimation will not be coming back as part of the TV lineup. You can view some of the content in On Demand.

I've been going through the stages of grief over this and I seem to be stuck on anger.  Like many of you I only chose FIOS because of the FUNimation channel.  I made this clear to the sales rep who signed me up.  I repeated this comment when I renewed my contract.  I even got the sales rep to assure me that I would not lose any of the channels I currently get.  I call this a breach of contract..  I even got them 3 customers based on the pressence of the FUNimation channel.  They are probably pretty angry with me right now.

When I received the notice of the channel's removal from their service I was confused.  I don't recall filling out any surveys on favorite channels.  How do they know how low the viewership is?  Everyone I know who has FIOS TV watches this channel, and given all the other channels in their lineup, why would this one be singled out for removal?  I am certain that there must be dozens of channels with fewer viewers.  There must be another reason they are not telling us.

I dont watch Bridges Tv but I understand it does serve a specific community.  As for FUNimation I have a theory- I think this is closer to an educated guess than baseless speculation.  I always believed that placing FUNimation at channel 262 in the lineup right between Sprout and The Hub reflected a total lack of understanding ot the FUNimation channel's programing and their target audience.  I can sympathise with the mother clicking through the cartoon channels looking for Barney and comeing across Ladd Russo and his exploits aboard the Flying Pussyfoot in 1930 or Okoi's interagation by the Iga ninja in 1614 (FUNimation channel viewers will understand this reference) I'm sure there have been complaints.  So instead of being accused of censorship they decided to announce that the contract would not be renewed for lack of viewers.     I am also quite certain that renewing the contract would not impact the price of FIOS products.  It insults the intelligence to imply otherwise. especially when you consider how many subscibers are threatening to go back to their old cable or sattelite providers over this.  Just  renew the contract and move the channel near G4 or SyFy or, better still, give us the HD feed since you require us to pay for the Extreme HD package to get it.  Chalk it up to a cultural misunderstanding.

Don't drop FUNimation.

Please leave Funimation alone...

Or even bump it up to HD ...

Unless you want to go the way of Netflix.

We sometimes make changes to our channel lineup in order to continue offering our customers the most popular programming. We try to maintain all services offered, but sometimes changes need to be made. The good news is that FUNimation programming is still available on their website (www.funimation.com) and with FiOS Internet, you are getting the nation's fastest, most consistent Internet with unmatched downstream speeds of up to 150 mbps and upstream speeds of more than 35 mbps.

Funimation channel           it just goes to show how little Verizon cares about its viewers, sure we are all  upset about the fact that they are dropping the funimation channel  but willl Verizon actually do anything about it,probably not. We are all posting in the hope that they will read them and save the channel ,because there are alot of us out there who really enjoy this channel, and alot of us out there who upgraded solely to get this channel .But our opinions are not what verizon cares about ,what they care about is the all mighty bottom line ! I have had Verizon for years and gone through alot of **bleep** ,because of them ,but still felt some measure of comfort and loyalty to the company , but I feel it was misplaced...If they have no small speck of concern for my feelings and concerns as a customer , then i have no reason to stay with the company and will look for another company that will meet my families needs ....

Verizon Fios, we as the anime veiwing community ask that you please reconsider this decision. Some of us have no other service provider that offers FUNimation. It's the only REAL Anime network that we have access to. Over all I think the motion to remove FUNimation is very unwise. I for one will say this, it is the ONLY channel I really watch. You remove FUNimation and I will not only leave Verizon service entierly but will also change service provider and encourage all the people I know to do the same. I would prefer not to go through that hassles, but I do see little other choice in the matter. Have a good day and I hope you do keep FUNimation

So judging from Heather's post, we're losing Funimation either way....?

I was so happy to see the support banner scrolling all weekend on FUNimation.  I certainly do not see low viewership reading over all the posts placed here!  There is a lot of activity on the FUNimation website, too.  I posted the ipetitions link (although, I'm sure other folks did as well) just to make sure we get our voices heard.

Verizon stands to lose a pretty good amount of customers and I stand by it.... I will indeed cancel Verizon and take my business elsewhere.  My sister probably has every anime series known to man, but there is a comfortable feeling being able to share this awesome art form with my elementary schoolaged kids on the TV piled up on the bed in my room on a rainy day.  Being able to see the anime shows makes the experience at the Otakon in Baltimore more vivid to them; they recognize what they see.

Let's keep supporting FUNimation and let Verizon know we are a strong legion of fans!

Heather - is this really how FIOS works? Tell people to go to a website to watch what they want? If I take your advice that really does mean I should cancel FIOS alltogether becasue pretty much any TV progeram is available to watch somewhere online. So what you are telling us all is that FIOS is a useless service and we should just watch everything on the internet?
