I understand that att.net offers its subscribers IMAP e-mail; why can't verizon.net do the same? POP3 is not where it's at anymore.

Before I vote for your post, where did you find that att.net offers IMAP e-mail?

For example, I went to https://www.wireless.att.com/support_static_files/KB/KB5892.html

But it does not say anything about IMAP for att.net

This is a great idea.  We recent got Verizon FIOS TV/Internet, and it's hard to go back to POP email when one has had IMAP for years.

I fully agree. We need IMAP support for:

- multiple email folders
- checking for new mail from mutliple computers/phones (without having to use webmail)
- tagging messages (e.g., Starred, Important, To Do)

If Verizon is worried about people storing too much email on the server, they can slap a quota on accounts.

This seems to be a frequently recurring request. I found six other posts asking for it when I was searching Google for "verizon imap" before coming here.

I just got FiOS installed today, and the tech seemed surprised that I wanted to set up a Verizon email account. He said most people use gmail. Now I know why.

Oh, and can we make it SSL (or at least STARTTLS) too so passwords aren't publicly readable?

Is this already supported?  The instructions I found said to use incoming.yahoo.verizon.net, but if there is already a working IMAP server at mail.verizon.com, it should be better publicized on the mail settings page.

Imap sounds like a good idea.  Is there another way to mange emails on computers and smart phones that doesn't require reading & deleting on each device?
