With the increased DVR space we will hopefully be getting shortly, I've thought about the unused drive space that will be available most of the time. Instead of letting that space stagnate, why not dynamically utilize it by increasing the DVR buffer when the drive space is available?   Currently, the DVR buffer allows about 45mins or so. If the space is available, why not add to the buffer so that there is 2 hours buffer available? 

If the available DVR drive space hits a certain threshold, then the buffer goes back to it's normal amount, dynamically.  Or if that is too complicated, just keep a static two hour buffer.  The point is we need a fatter buffer and we're going to have the drive space for it!

  Perhaps It should be an 'option' in the settings .. "Increase Buffer 20%" ....

If I remember correctly the original DVR with the MS code would buffer the program from the beginning of when you started watching it. And you could select record to capture that buffer at anytime during viewing the program. If you started watching the program at the start, you could press record and have the entire program content at any time even if it was a two hour movie. Yes the buffer was different, and I would like to see that feature brought back. Now it is strictly time based more like TiVO's buffer, and I see the old configuration as an option VZ lost when they went to the new IMG years ago. I suspect the buffer was changed because of the Micosoft img being changed to the new non MS IMG, and the conservation of the limited drive space. Yes I did have the origional DVR at launch.

This is a good idea, but pretty difficult to implement...
