On Demand - FF and Rewind Options?

Why do so many OnDemand shows block the ability to fast forward or rewind?  ie: Grey's Anatomy, Castle, etc

So we can't skip the commercials - per the content providers. We are working on enhancing the system... so you can fwd and rwd the content but not the ads...

I called Fios about this a few years ago and they told me that it is up to the channels like NBC, ABC, etc as to whether or not they allow pause and ff/rw.  Not sure if this is true, but I would like to have that feature.

I understand that the provider might not want to let you fast forward the ads, and I can live with that, it's fair enough, even if it means you can't fast forward content, either -- but the inability to sometimes PAUSE or REWIND the content is terrible. Why wouldn't that be allowed?

Not being able to fast-forward advertisements on demand defeats half the purpose of watching on demand!

Please allow us to fast forward in on-demand shows?  We already have the ability to reverse, why not allow us to fast forward?

A newly engineered, more responsive FIOs TV/DVR remote would make a a world of different in user experience. The function of the current remote is so slack, sloppy, imprecise, and therefore so frustrating that it has compelled me to research other tv service providers now that my 2-year agreement has expired. (It's physical design is unneccesarily clumsy, too, but that's merely a slight annoyance and an aesthetic shame.

 

Is this intentional by any chance? Has verizon promised its content providers that FIos subscribers will not be able to fast-forward or rewind without catching at least some of the commercials, and repetitiions of commercials and commercial fragments if one makes more than one attempt to find the right place in a program. If that's not the case then surely the innovators of a vast fiber optic network can build a better clicker.

 

Surely your product developers have handled a TiVo remote. That, to me, is the gold standard of exacting responsiveness. Go for that level of operational excellence and you'll keep more customers and no doubt win some from TiVO. I imagine some of the TiVo  remote's technology is proprietary, but even if that's so there have got to be other ways to achieve the same end.
