I came across a program that my father in-law would love to watch and I really wanted an easy way to share it with him.
I was thinking that if I could 'share' a program with another FIOS customer via the 'info' menu for a particular program. Then the other customer would recieve a small notification on their TV indicating that I have shared a program. When that customer selects their notification, they are taken to the program that was shared (assumes access to that channel). When that customer is on this shared program, the notifcation just changes to a small message indicating I shared it with them and then disappears after about 5 seconds.
I think content providers would really like knowing customers can have a social feature like this as well.
BrianVA, I have been thinking the same thing for quite some time now. I really like the way you presented the idea. I wanted to add onto the idea by requesting having the ability to share a recorded program from the DVR. I would like to be able to somehow e-mail a program I already recorded on my DVR, to another verizon fios customer's top box that has DVR already set up. I know as a mother of young children, there would be alot of "sharing" of recorded shows, especially holiday specials, when other parents forgot to set up a recording. I'm sure the same would go for many others with different interests.
Malcolm_Stanley I would prefer to share with tv and social networking. If I had to make a choice between the 2, I'd choose privat through the TV.
I just found this after posting a request similar to jamacauley's posting regarding sharing recordings.
I'd prefer to share directly from the STB or TV screen by using the remote, similar to the way I record
the program. I don't want to have to go to some other social network.
