downloading programs from dvr

Status: Not Likely
by kenkeller48 on ‎09-23-2010 09:25 AM

My family was featured on a home decorating tv show last year, which I recorded on my dvr.  I would like to make a dvd of this program, but Verizon reps have advised me that transferring recordings from the dvr is not allowed.  If I were using a vcr, I would have been able to record the program and to transfer it to a dvr, so I don't understand why this limitation is imposed on Verizon customers who use a dvr.

We are prohibited by the content providers from enabling file transfers from the DVR's. This is intended to prevent the content from being used illegally (e.g. posting to the Internet for others to download). You can however connect the DVR video output to a video capture card in a computer. If the content is not copy protected (i.e. CCI byte set to "copy freely"), then you should be able to create the DVD. Content providers determine if the content is set to "copy freely", "copy never" or "copy once". Generally shows are "copy freely" or "copy once".

As long as the show is not copy protected, buy a DVD recorder , hook it up to the av or RF outputs of the DVR and record the program  to a DVD.

This is not a duplicate with http://forums.verizon.com/t5/Share-Your-Ideas-with-Verizon/Ability-to-direct-a-recorded-program-to-a... .This poster can't figure out how to make a DVD, which must be done in real time while watching the program..  The other poster  wants the same feature Cable has - the ability to make a dvd or vcr copy while watching something else.

Contact the company who made the programme, not the broadcaster, ie the company who got you involved in the first place. I'd be very surprised if they don't just send you a dvd for free in lieu of payment for participation.

I might have missed this somewhere so if I did please let me know.

I would like to be able to copy programs that I have recorded on my DVR to a flash drive using the USB port.  Since we can only record a limited amount of programs due to space I would like the option to copy some programs to a flash drive so I can then delete the programs off my DVR to record more programs.

I would like to be able to then put in the flash drive and have the ability to watch the programs and then delete them from the flash drive so I can save other programs from my DVR.

I record quite a few programs so I have had to stop recording HD programs since they use much more space than the non-HD programs.  I prefer the HD but I record to many programs to be able to catch up watching them before I run out of space on my DVR.

FUNCTION: Add the function to copy/move the chosen recorded program to the USB port.

Thank you
