CenturyLink offers their residential customers a FREE option to have all calls intercepted with a message saying that the number they called does not accept telemarketing calls, and to remove the number from their call list. All other callers are asked to press 1, which then connects the call.
If CenturyLink can offer this service, why can't Verizon??? This simple tool would stop all those automated, and very annoying, telemarketing calls.
While I am not a big fan of asking my relatives to press extra numbers in order to talk to me I am a fan of Verizon raising the number of calls I can BLOCK from 10 to say 100 or 200. That way when a telemarker or polictical robo-call comes in I can simply BLOCK it so it does not happen again. With CenturyLink a telemarker could always Press 1.
What would help would be to find a way to stop the calls from other countries. Over the past 2 weeks I have received 2 calls from India telling me that they have determined that my computer is infected with a virus and trying to get me to let them get rid of it for me. Usually after attempting to get their company name and a call back number, with no luck as the accent of the caller is so heavy you cannot understand anything they tell you and they only answer with the same "script" that tells you your system is at risk unless you let them "fix" it for you. About this time I tell them I am not an **bleep** and do not call me back. Blocking their number never works as the number that shows up always changes. They have no idea what the do not call list is and because you cannot get a company name or phone number you cannot report them.
I think it`s a great idea to have (Verizon) customers, free from the annoying telemarketers, and to offer it FREE!EVEN WHEN PLACED ON THE DO NOT CALL LIST ,they randomly and constantly torment like mad DOGS.
