setting up favorite channels

Seems to me that it would be much easier to set a channel as a favorite by pressing the "heart" button on the remote while watching the specific channel or while the channel is highlighted in the guide.

Easier compared to what? IMO the best use of the heart button is to switch between the All Channels, Favorites 1, and Favorites 2 lists.

If you are watching a channel and want add or remove a channel to or from a Favorites list, all you have to do is hit the Options button, scroll down to Favorites in the list and right click, then pick the list to add it to or remove it from. Pretty darn easy.

Unfortunately you cannot do the above when in the Guide, but of course you can select to view the channel and then do it.

There are multiple ways to set up and add to or remove channels from Favorites list(s):

1) Create a list in the Menu on the STB. You can add all channels at once, or add specific ones, as few or as many as you want.

2) Start with an empy list and add channels individually as I documented above.

3) Maintain your Favorites list(s) via the Verizon website on your PC. As far as I know this can only be done for DVRs, I have never been able to find a way to do it for non-DVR STBs (but maybe there is a way and someone will provide it).

From my experience, once I have set up a list, I rarely need to make changes to it, and when I do it is very easy to do what I first described.

I wasn't clear in my original post.  A single step (pressing the "heart" button while watching or in the guide) is easier than a multi step ("If you are watching a channel and want add or remove a channel to or from a Favorites list, all you have to do is hit the Options button, scroll down to Favorites in the list and right click, then pick the list to add it to or remove it from.") process.  Comcast uses the "single step" method and it is easier.

No, I understood exactly what you meant, but from your original post I was not sure that you understood that you can add (and delete) channels to (and from) a Favorites list using the Options button. Many people apparently do not realize that, they think they have to go to the Menu and do it there, and that is not correct.

To me, it is far more important to be able to switch easily from one Favorites list to another or to the All Channels when channel surfing or viewing the Guide than it is to add a channel to a Favorites list. The heart button lets you do that switch, one press per change. As I said in my original post, once I have set up a Favorites list I rarely add or delete channels from it, but I pretty frequently switch between lists. And keep in mind that Verizon offers up to two Favorites lists, so one press of the button isn't going to do the job if you have multiple lists, you still need to select which list.

This of course is all a matter of opinion; I prefer it the way Verizon now has it, and I hope they don't change it. :smileyvery-happy:
