I think id does. I have attended Holiday parties on behalf of our company and have followed up with the contacts I made. I have established Twitter and Facebook accounts and update them regularly.

It depends on your audience. If youre dealing with decision makers, Linkedin is the social network you will want to work with. I saw a stat that said only 22% of twitter users are decision makers. However, if your business deals with consumers, facebook and twitter are vital for your business to help spread the word. Social media will only help, businesses have no reasons not to use it.
