Broadband’s Next Frontier Is in the Home

1539i25B8237CD4BCFD7CDo you have too many gadgets and too many remote controls that operate many items in your home? Most likely you’ll answer, “Yes.”  Now imagine a unified control panel that will control your home essentials like lights, thermostat, alarm and video using three screens: your TV, your computer and your smartphone.

Verizon not only is imagining a “connected home,” we’ll unveil a new connected home service soon, and Verizon’s Ann Shaub is previewing it today at the 2010 Digital Home Summit for broadband providers.

The connected home will give you quick and easy control over your home no matter where you are.  It will enable you to check up on your home security, or turn on lights before entering your home at night, or schedule the house to turn on combinations of lights at a certain time if you’ll be home later. Maybe you’d want to also adjust the thermostat so you return home to a warm (or cool) house. It all will be easily managed from your computer, from your Verizon control panel or from your mobile phone.

The connected home will leverage Verizon's broadband networks – whether all-fiber-optic, wireless or copper-based – and help our customers live the “digital lifestyle” that has been discussed for some time.

You’ll be able to:

  • Click on a button while watching TV to check up on your child playing upstairs or even in the driveway.

  • Arm your home security from your mobile phone instead of running downstairs to turn on the system.

  • Be more “green.”  Easily pull up a chart from your laptop that will identify which energy usage habits are driving up your electric bill. Or save a trip to the office with a home video conference.

The personalized connected home experience from Verizon is coming.  Stay tuned.

Touch screen tablet application for a PC, MAC, and IPAD. IPAD or IPOD network application to remoreley control everything, including your STBs. Change channels with your IPOD or IPAD. Not just program your DVR but use it like a remote.

I still can not edit my posts in these blogs. No auto spell check either. Why not start there?

You can already use your android phone as a remote for any STB, so it would only be a port to iOS, which shouldn't be too hard.
