Today (July 19) the Federal Communications Commission issued the results of its "Measuring Broadband in America July 2012" broadband speed and reliability testing for residential broadband service. This is the second broadband report issued by the FCC in conjunction with SamKnows, an independent company that tests broadband speed. The study measured the speed and performance of the nation’s largest ISPs (Internet Service Providers).
It’s no surprise that FiOS broadband service is still the cream of the crop, something that more than 5 million of our customers experience every day.
In a statement issued today, Mike Ritter, Verizon’s chief marketing officer for consumer and mass markets, sums up our view of the FCC’s findings:
“Verizon’s FiOS service continues to demonstrate its mastery of broadband speed, reliability and consistency for consumers as represented in today’s FCC-SamKnows residential broadband report, ‘Measuring Broadband America July 2012.’ The FCC’s findings reaffirm the results from the 2011 report, which found that FiOS provides blazing-fast and sustained upstream and downstream speeds even during peak usage periods. This year’s results also show once again that FiOS Internet customers are receiving speeds that meet or exceed those we advertise, adding even more value to the customer experience.”
There was improvement in the latest findings by some cable Internet providers in some categories. Of course, after the FCC's 2011 test revealed that FiOS was the hands-down winner for speed, reliability and consistency, they had to do something! The reality is that most cable providers can push and prod their networks all day and all night long and, as this year’s study shows, FiOS still comes out the overall leader in broadband speed and performance.
And this was before we broke all speed barriers with the introduction of FiOS Quantum in June. The timing of this study did not allow it to reflect our new FiOS Internet speed tiers of 50/25, 75/35, 150/65 and 300/65 megabits per second, but we expect excellent results when these groundbreaking, industry-leading speed offerings are included in the future.
But then isn’t this what you as a Verizon FiOS customer expect from the best broadband network in America? As households add more and more Internet-connected devices that vie for space on your broadband connection, you can relax as a FiOS customer. We’ve got you covered.
