Multichannel News had some interesting updates this week about the Verizon FiOS rollout in New York City. After talking with our VP of Operations for the city Paul Sullivan, reporter Todd Spangler told his readers that Verizon’s all-fiber network now passes around 1.8 million homes and businesses or 58 percent of the city’s roughly 3.1 million households.
Sullivan told Spangler that “we’re going full steam” in New York City, and we’re on track to meet our franchise agreement to have FiOS extended across New York City by the end of June 2014.
Although it wasn’t reported in this story, Verizon in 2010 has expanded FiOS TV to parts of 26 new neighborhoods around the city, bringing the total number of neighborhoods having FiOS TV availability to 279, up from 253 at the beginning of the year. It’s clear from this and other news reports that we’re shaking up the market and offering residents of the Big Apple an alternative to cable. And, with new services like Flex View on the horizon, we’re bringing entertainment to FiOS TV customers everywhere in new and exciting ways.
