Flex View Now Streaming Videos For Instant Access

by Employee ‎06-27-2012 01:08 PM - edited ‎06-27-2012 03:03 PM

mm_up_hls_ipad_1.PNGSince we launched Flex View in the fall of 2010, we’ve been working hard to enhance the experience for our FiOS TV customers. Today I’m excited to tell you about a brand new feature of Flex View, which allows Apple users to stream movies and TV shows and watch them immediately.

As most of you already know, Flex View is a feature of FiOS TV that allows our customers to buy or rent TV shows and movies and watch them on their TV, PC and select mobile devices.

Flex View initially launched on Android devices. Last fall, we added the iPhone, iPad and iTouch to the list. Now these Apple devices are the first to become compatible with this latest Flex View feature that allows for immediate streaming. Until now, users have had to download each title before watching them.

If you own one of these Apple devices, just head over to the Apple iTunes store and download our Verizon Media Manager app. If you already have the app, make sure to go to the store and get the update. Once downloaded, you can use your TV or PC to buy or rent the titles you want to watch, and then stream them immediately on any of your compatible devices.

If you have an Android device, don’t worry. We’re working to add the streaming capability for you too, and expect to have it ready later this year.

With over 20,000 titles at your fingertips, Flex View gives you the ability to truly expand your anytime, anywhere video experience.  You can take your videos on the go, whether that means you’re watching your selected titles at the airport, on the train, or while parked at school waiting to pick up your children. Or, if you’re like me, letting your kids watch a video on your iPad while your husband is watching baseball on the big screen TV.

Enjoy the new feature, and let us know what you think.

I've been waiting for at least a year to watch regular TV (something other than "Buy/Rent" ) on an IPad. We're were promised, but nothing ever delivered.

Will FIOS customers ever be able to watch shows recorded in our DVR library online or on iPhone / iPad?

We are certainly working on it.  I hope to see TV on the iPad later this year.  In the meantime, don't forget to check out FiOS TV Online, which enables you - as a FiOS TV customer - to access quite a bit of programming on the iPad.  And some of that is live:

I was wondering if Android users can watch CNN live like you can on Apple devices logging in to the app with your Verizon id?  I did this on my iPod touch however I don't seem to have that ability as far as I can tell on my new Android phone even though I have My Verizon installed on it.  Am I missing it or is that just not available yet for Android users?

@tdunnusa Android devices do support the CNN app, but I believe the device needs to be 2.1 or higher. If you think your device qualifies, please let me know what issue you're having and I'll try to help.

My Android phone is 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) so it should be compatible right?  I'm not sure where to download the app actually.  The CNN android app is not the same one I have on my iPod from Apple.  The Apple CNN app which is what I was hoping was available for Android has a My CNN button where you can view live CNN shows by entering your Verizon account id/password.  The Android app has no login to Verizon to access the live shows which is what I was hoping was available.

We checked with CNN. Turns out their Android app currently doesn't offer the same live streaming functionality that you get with Apple devices or online. We'll let you know if they are going to expand to Android devices.

Thank you for the update I appreciate it!

The cable/fios companies have put all of the video stores in my neighborhood out of business. When I use to go to the video store, I could rent the same movie every week if I wanted to. The video store owned its copy of the film and could rent it to me as often as it was available.

Now that the cable/fios companies have seen to it that video stores are all gone from my neighborhood, shouldn't they provide something like the same service? Rather than take the home movie rental business backward?

I just spent over an hour looking through the Flex View directory (which is painfully slow to scroll through) only to find that more than half the films I am interested in seeing are listed only for purchase, not for rental, some at prices over $20. That's $20 for something in the ether. $20 for something that will never physically exist, not even to go into storage in 10 years with my VHS tapes that I purchased rather than renting.

I have been a Fios customer for less than a month and am seriously thinking of switching back to cable...and taking the rest of my condo residents with me.
