Free Calls to Japan, Text to Donate, and Free TV Japan

The images of the devastation in Japan are heartbreaking. Our hearts go out to the Japanese people and to their loved ones who are left wondering and hoping from a distance.

To help keep our customers connected with loved ones in and around affected areas, Verizon is making all calls to Japan free for most residential and wireless customers through April 10.

Additionally, Verizon Prepaid Phone Card charges for all long-distance calls placed to Japan from the U.S. will also be waived through the same period.

We’ve also made it easy for customers to text donations to a host of non-profit organizations responding to the earthquake and subsequent tsunami.  Customers can make a $10 donation by simply sending a text message and may choose from 10 organizations aiding those in need in Japan.  For more information on text to donate, please visit: http://news.vzw.com/news/2011/03/pr2011-03-13.html.

In cooperation with TV Japan, FiOS TV customers who are not subscribed to the channel will have free access through March 25.  The channel location is 1770.

Keeping you connected to what and those you love is what we do, but at times like these we’re honored to be able to help.

This is an oustandingg generosity from Verizon, little details like this shows that Verizon, although, a large company who looks for profits also is capable of incredible compasion towards the hardship of others. This convinces me to stay with this company. WELL DONE!!!!

I just read this email from our home account [I am in Japan]... I concur with the previous comment, this is very generous of Verizon. A question... Does this generousity extend both ways, meaning are the calls made from Japan to the States are also free?  Thanks and yes I can still here you now !!!

rjmvlm,

You didn't say what part of Japan you're in, but we hope you, your family and colleagues are ok.  Verizon is making calls to Japan free for most residential and wireless customers through April 10.  The program applies to calls to Japan but not to calls from Japan to the United States.

Just wanted to say Thank You to Verizon for this amazing gesture.  I have felt much more connected to my family and friends.  Thank you again.
