The Internet has been a tremendous boost for students researching school projects and classroom compositions. As the kids return to school, it’s a good time to remember that the Internet also holds pitfalls and malicious programs designed to hijack your children’s computers and threaten their online security.
Verizon offers two tools that can help your kids online: our award-winning Internet security suite (VISS) and online backup and sharing service (VOBS).
As an additional incentive to Verizon broadband customers to sign up for both services, Verizon is extending for a limited time its offer of the first 90 days free on a new bundle of VISS and VOBS. After the first 90 days, customers will be automatically billed at the monthly rate for the bundle they select. Bundles start at $10 a month for VISS coverage of up to three computers and 50 GB (gigabytes) of VOBS service.
And VISS and VOBS versions for Mac users also are available.
Powered by McAfee, one of the industry’s best, VISS features a powerful two-way firewall, anti-spam, anti-virus and anti-spyware protection that is automatically updated, as well as McAfee’s Active Protection technology that analyzes and blocks incoming threats within milliseconds of arrival on your PC. VISS also offers a file “shredder” that lets users effectively remove all traces of confidential files from their computers.
Meanwhile, VOBS allows users access to backed-up files from any Internet connection and features a Web-based multimedia player for viewing and display of stored photos, videos and music. VOBS also enables access to the service from any Web-capable mobile device, along with an automatic backup of selected files and directories on a user’s computer or computers.
With the kids returning to school, now is an especially good time to think about your kids’ online activities, but it’s a subject to keep in mind throughout the year.
