Ever browse the Internet and watch TV simultaneously? (Who…us??) Well, you are apparently part of a trend.
A recent Nielsen survey (by way of Ars Technica) reported that 57 percent of U.S. Internet users browse the Internet while watching TV. While relatively common these days, it’s an activity that was largely unheard of in most households just five years ago. On average, these Internet surfers-TV viewers spent about 2 hours and 39 minutes each month doing these activities simultaneously. (Seems way to low to me).
Of course, with Verizon FiOS TV you might be doing both these activities without ever opening the lid of your laptop. Our Facebook and Twitter Widgets, accessed from the FiOS remote control, let subscribers look at their Facebook pages, or a friend’s page, and post Tweets all day long from the big screen in the living room. In addition, our Media Manager feature lets subscribers watch Internet videos from blip.tv, Veoh and Dailymotion on the TV screen.
Are you one of the Nielsen trendsetters? If so, I’m interested in hearing how you combine Internet browsing and TV watching. Are you doing something on the Web that is related to the program or movie you’re watching, or are you more likely to be multitasking? How anxious are you for a full-blown Internet browser on the TV? Is that the next big trend?
