Been driving in New York City lately? If you're like me and you travel around the city, then you understand that it"s not unusual to find tie-ups and bottlenecks throughout the five boroughs, at seemingly all hours of the day and night.

Now a new FiOS Widget can help.  It shows live camera views of major NYC road conditions on your TV, and we're introducing it this week for Verizon customers in the NYC Metro area who have FiOS TV and Internet.

Working with New York City, Verizon developed the Widget to check on road conditions, and soon other city information and services will be added.  Right now customers can choose any of the five boroughs to view and zoom in for a closer look at individual roads.  It's available to FiOS customers in New York City, Long Island, the northern suburbs and northern New Jersey.

The new Widget is represented by a "NYC 311" logo in the Widgets Bazaar on FiOS TV, and it's pretty handy for checking out which route to take before getting in the car.

Customers can also set a favorites list to get reports on roads they travel daily.  You don't have to wait for the traffic reports with this Widget; you can get the traffic at any time for any borough, it's that easy.

Nice.  Now if we could get cameras from NJ,LI and Westchester this would be a very useful tool.
