Last Wednesday, I joined some of my colleagues at the annual Multicultural Media Forum in NYC. This is a great industry event, where distributors, programmers and other executives gather to discuss the latest in multicultural content. The theme this year was: The Power of Community.
Michelle Webb, Verizon’s executive director of content programming and acquisition for FiOS TV, spoke on a panel all about multicultural programming. Michelle joined executives from Charter Communications and Comcast, as well as international channels Asia TV, Blue Ocean Network and GMC TV, to discuss how they work together to offer customers the best in international programming.
“We’re dedicated to delivering the content our customers want, wherever and whenever they want it,” she said. “We’re transforming our strategy to focus on making sure we have enough in language channels that serve our entire customer base.”
Michelle explained to the audience that FiOS TV looks to form partnerships with content providers who can deliver their programming with a deep offering on multiple platforms.
As most FiOS TV customers know, multicultural programming is a priority for us at Verizon. We offer 75 international channels, including 57 in language. Last month we launched Spanish-language movie channel Cine Estelar and last November we launched their sister channel, Cine Nostalgia. Both can be found in our La Conexion package, which offers the best in Spanish- and English-language programming, with more than 155 channels, including all Spanish-language channels, up to 18 HD channels and more than 56 of the most popular channels in English. Verizon also offers a Spanish Language package, which features 57 of the most popular Spanish-language channels. Two other recent additions to the La Conexion and Spanish Language packages came this past December, with Tele El Salvador and Dominican View.
And we have more to come. Soon we’ll be launching more Spanish-language channels as well as other multicultural content. Keep watch here for the latest.
