Pittsburgh, Tampa Get Advanced FiOS TV Interactive Media Guide

Verizon has delivered its most advanced FiOS TV Interactive Media Guide operating system to customers in the Pittsburgh and TampaBay areas.  The updated guide brings a host of new features, including DVR chaptering, which gives viewers DVD-like capabilities to jump ahead or resume viewing at a particular moment of recorded programming by using on-screen thumbnails in 10-minute increments.

You can see DVD chaptering in the attached video and learn how customer feedback contributed to many of the more than 25 upgrades to FiOS TV’s advanced operating system.

More markets will see the advanced IMG coming later this month and over the rest of the summer, putting the feature-rich guide into the hands of more than 3.7 million FiOS television viewers.  And we’ll keep taking feedback and answering questions about the guide as more customers begin to use it at http://verizon.com/imgtalk.

So continue to check back here for news about launches in additional markets and let us know what you think about the newest features.

Lets hope that other markets do not get the same rude awakening we received here in Tampa.

Regrettably, yesterday, our video operating system upgrade did not happen as seamlessly as it should. We learned from the situation and future system upgrades are expected to go very well.

We apologize for your inconvenience. Now that our newest interactive media guide is in place in the Tampa/St. Pete area, we hope you find the many new features useful in managing your viewing experience and we look forward to offering you FiOS TV for years to come.

We haven't received the new IMG in my neck of the woods yet (MD) but I've been reading about it and it's my understanding that the QIP 6200 boxes aren't compatible with it. I have 2 of those boxes and my question is, what would the process to exchange them for boxes that are compatible and is there a charge?

Thanks in advance.

sister2, thanks for your inquiry.  When you do get the new IMG 1.9 it will be compatible with QIP 6200 boxes.  The graphics resolution won't be quite as good as with the Motorola 7000 series but it will be readable.  You'll receive a message from us when IMG 1.9 is coming to Maryland.

Above you state all customers will have 1.9 by the end of the summer. Well, it is now Sept, will we all really have 1.9 by Sept 25th (or so)? I live near Boston (MetroWest) and with the new NFL season and Tv season, I am looking forward to adding the extra storage to my Dvr.

We've been waiting for many months for the promised upgrade to 1.9. In particular, we look forward to having the ability to extend the hard drive on the DVR. The new fall television season is upon us, the summer is over, the strike with CWA appears to be settled, but we still don't have 1.9 in the Washington DC/Baltimore area. You would think with all these members of Congress and their staffs using FIOS that Verizon would have moved a bit quicker here. Sorry for the rant, but when I signed up for FIOS nearly a year ago I was promised, PROMISED that the DVR extender would work by the beginning of 2011. Sorry Kevin, but Verizon's credibility (and by extension your credibility) has been stretched to breaking on the promised roll out.

I agree 100% with SteveInFairfax, what does it take to post a roll out schedule for this the upgrade, do we need to start a public policy grass roots program to get Verizon to take action. You have to search multiple thread on multiple boards only to find that there is apparently no public schedule.

We appreciate your strong interest in 1.9 and your frustration.  We did have some challenges in meeting the initial timelines this summer.  We are working diligently to deploy 1.9 to the remainder of the FiOS TV footprint and expect to have it completed within the next 30 days.  You'll be receiving notification in advance of the IMG 1.9 update in your area.

Kevin, Any status update? Your last post said that Boston should expect IMG 1.9 by 11-10-11.  That's less than a week away.  Is it still on track.  BTW - it is very disappointing the lack of communication/update status from Verizon.

by sister2 on ‎11-04-2011 01:31 PM

Thank you, Kevin for your reply :smileyhappy:

We have the new guide now and we think it looks very nice on the one 7xxx box that we have (well, except for the overly large and long staying info bar we get upon changing channels. I know hitting "exit" makes it go away but wish there was a way to disable that altogether)  On our 6xxx boxes, the guide is a small rectangle in the middle of the screen surrounded by black and we're not liking that very much...

Well, it's several days after the last promised date of 11/10/11 (and numerous months since the previous promised dates)for IMg 1.9. I am disappointed with the the missed deadline; however, the lack of communication is unacceptable. If you are going to promote a product and then release due dates, it is unaccusable not to keep your customers clearly informed with new and correct timeframes. Please provide when IMF 1.9 will be installed in Boston. Also a lessons in PR For the Internet World might also be warranted.
