We’ve all heard the saying – “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” More and more, we see work following us around – in the office, at home, at the baseball game, you name it. There’s no question the world of work is changing – but that’s a good thing for consumers.
Everyone together now – “huh?”
Over at the Verizon Business Think Forward blog, our colleague Stefanie Scott wonders - what's your work style? She’s seeking input from people who are experiencing this blurring of the lines - how and where people get their best work done, how work life meshes with personal life and the tools people are using to move business forward.
One paragraph from her post stands out –
“The era of the 9-to-5 job is over,’’ according to the August 9 Mashable infographic, “The Rise of the Mobile Workforce.’’ “Even just a few years ago, you were expected to commute to work, put in your hours and drive back home. Once you left work, it was done until you came back into the office the next way. Thanks to laptops, smartphones, tablets and Wi-Fi, that has all changed.’’
Jack – and of course, Jill – might find that counter to enjoying time away from the office. But what is better – being at the office until 9 p.m. to stay on top of work…or plugging in to your FiOS 35/35 Mbps broadband connection in your family room at home for the same thing? How about going into the office on Saturday morning to accomplish a task – or using your tablet over the Verizon Wireless 3G or 4G networks to knock something out from the coffee shop before you head off for your 20-mile bike ride?
Home and work balance is easier to achieve when you have the flexibility to manage both through the superior networks Verizon provides, along with the great smart phones and tablets that ride over them and the industry-leading, super-fast home Internet service we offer. Sure, it takes discipline to know when to put it aside and watch your seven-year old at the plate. But that’s easier than having it described to you over the phone.
We know there are many of you out there that balance home life by being able to work just about anywhere…or work exclusively from home so you can take care of the family’s needs…and we’d like to hear from you as well. Are you leading a life with no boundaries because of Verizon technology? How does that make your personal time easier to manage?
We’ll have more to say about this topic in the weeks ahead. For now, start sending us your feedback, your stories – even your photos – here on At Home or to future.of.work@verizon.com. We’ll get a conversation going and have some fun in the process.
