If you’re a small business owner reading this blog, chances are you’re doing so from a smart phone, a tablet, or a lap top – maybe at work, at home or perhaps some other remote location like a coffee shop, doctor’s office or transportation facility.
That’s understandable. First and foremost, small businesses have to keep their business interests close and there are plenty of tools out there now to help them do that, offering all manner of connectivity so business can be conducted anywhere, anytime.
In fact, as my colleague Stefanie Scott points out in her continuing series on the future of work at the Verizon Think Forward blog, you may even be sitting in your pajamas on a conference call while you read this as you decide how to manage the day ahead.
Small business owners clearly have to put business first. But moving their personal interests to the backburner isn’t always the best approach to keep a balanced life going. Indeed, the same tools used to keep the business flowing, regardless of geographic location, allow them to keep up with paying household bills, scheduling movies for home and squeezing in some entertainment on the go.
On October 12, Verizon introduced yet another way that busy people can monitor and manage the home front regardless of where they are located. Our new Home Monitoring and Control service allows you to adjust your thermostat, turn lights on or off or peer into the house to make sure you did remember to turn off the coffee maker! You can even see your front door and remotely unlock it to let in your relatives or friends as they arrive for that weekend visit.
Just as the future of work is about anytime-anywhere access, so to is the future of life whether you’re a business owner, a consumer or both. Robust, intelligent broadband networks have freed us to manage work or life from virtually anywhere, now even including the long-sought Holy Grail of a smart home thanks to things like Home Monitoring and Control.
We’d love to know how you are integrating your work and personal life and if you think the new home monitoring service would be useful for you with that process.
