Verizon FiOS Brings You the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games

by Employee on ‎07-23-2012 12:34 PM

COMPLETE_LondonOly_Logo_4C_Positive.pngThe countdown has begun! We’re just five days away from the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games. With more than 5,535 hours of Olympic programming from NBCUniversal, including content that is live and on demand and across multiple platforms, FiOS TV customers won’t miss a beat – whether you’re at home or on the go.

The Opening Ceremony will air this Friday at 7:30 pm ET on NBC. During the Games, you’ll find coverage on NBC, NBC Sports Network, MSNBC, CNBC, Bravo and Telemundo. All of these channels will feature an on-screen interactive application that pops up on the TV screen. The app offers real-time medal counts, athlete bios, team USA reports, Olympic news and more. So whether you want to see if Michael Phelps is adding to his medal count or LeBron James and Kevin Durant are leading the charge on the basketball court, FiOS TV’s Olympic content has you covered.

In addition, FiOS TV has two high-def specialty channels: Olympics basketball on FiOS TV Channel 594 and Olympics soccer on FiOS TV Channel 596. Both will feature 24/7 coverage of each sport. If you have a 3D television, make sure you check out the first ever 3D Olympics programming on FiOS TV Channel 1003. You’ll have access to 242 hours of 3D coverage.

FiOS TV customers also have online and mobile access to the Summer Olympic Games this year. There are two free apps for your mobile phone and tablet: the NBC Olympics app, which features live updates on every event plus news, results & schedules, listings, medal counts and more; and the NBC Olympics Live Extra app, featuring live coverage of the Games.

NBC Live Extra also features online access to the Olympics, with more than 3,500 hours of live streamed programming. FiOS TV customers can sign in at FiOS TV Online and at www.NBCOlympics.com.  If you sign in before this Friday, July 27, you can enter the NBC Olympics Live Extra Sweepstakes for a chance to win a variety of prizes including a trip to the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, an HD TV and more.

In Friday’s What to Watch post, I told you about the on demand Olympics programming already available on FiOS TV. You can get ready for the Games with more than 120 clips on demand. During the Games, FiOS TV Video on Demand will feature more than 550 highlight clips and 240 full-length event replays available within 24 hours of an event’s completion.

What events are you excited to watch? Any favorite athletes? Enjoy all that the Games have to offer this year and make sure to take advantage of all that FiOS has to offer.  And if you want to stay up to date with the latest action from the Games, follow us on Twitter @Verizon.

Is there a way to disable the interactive widget the pops up on the screen?  It's a nice idea, just not for me and I've already triggered it accidentally (by hitting the button to return to the last channel viewed, which was odd).

Heather,

Have you tried to sign in the NBC Live Extra on an Android Phone?  It seems to be broken across the board.  The comments on the Google Play Download page are almost entirely negative.  I attempted to login via an Incredible 2 on Verizon Wireless with my Verizon Fios account and I get Authentication Errors every time.

If you have any hints on how to successfully log in, please share them.

I had no problem logging in from my laptop, so my user ID and password are good.

Thanks,

KG

@l1willia  Yes, you can disable the widget, if you'd like. In the menu, under settings, choose "pop-up alerts" and "enable options."

@kgva1  Sounds like an issue with the app, but I'll check with my colleagues here and let you know if they have any tips.

A number of us can't access the NBC Olympics Live Extra feature.  I have a current login, Prime HD, and automatic billing, but no luck.

Tried three browsers - firefox, internet explorer and chrome.  None are letting me login to Verizon to watch the olympics.  Any ideas?

I changed the pop-up setting but it still shows up on and off.  Problem is, I don't use the standard remote and when I hit the button to return to the last channel viewed this activiates the widget, which then takes a few minutes to load.  I'm a channel flipper, especially during the Olympics when there's stuff on so many channels, so it's a bit annoying.
