Verizon HSI Powers Couple's Clothing Business

Living in a small, rural town and running a business from home can be a great lifestyle.  And thanks to today’s modern broadband networks, it’s a lifestyle that is more and more common.

For four years now, Ron and Amy McConnell of Solvang, CA (about 30 miles north of Santa Barbara), have been using Verizon High Speed Internet to run a home-based children's clothing business called Lollybean Kid Couture.

(PC Magazine’s 2008 Readers Survey rated Verizon HSI one of the most reliable broadband services out there.  It’s available to more than 20 million households and small businesses in 24 states and D.C.)

We recently got in touch with Ron and Amy to talk about how Verizon HSI works for them.

Tell us more about your business.
Lollybean is a wholesale manufacturer of children's clothing. We sell to about 200 children's boutiques nationwide and in Canada. They place orders through our sales representatives and we fulfill the orders.

Every year, Amy comes out with a new collection for Lollybean. Our collections always include our popular shirt and pant sets for infants and toddlers. Amy designs these trikefront.JPGsets with graphics on the shirt and catchy phrases on the bum of the pant that complement the graphic. We also carry infant gown and hat sets and big kid T-shirt's.

Why did you choose Verizon's High Speed Internet?
We wanted to have a faster way to operate and stay better connected with our customers.  Of course, being down is out of the question for us, so reliability was a key part of the decision.

With many of our stores busy during the day, with people in and out, it is at times difficult to reach our customers on the phone, so we tend to use e-mail instead. Our HSI has proven to be vital in our day-to-day operations. We are able to process credit card transactions much faster, and daily tasks such as receiving new orders has become much more efficient because of the time saved with HSI.

When has Verizon's HSI been particularly useful, besides processing credit cards?
We ship Lollybean to our stores using UPS, and shipping is all arranged on the Internet.  We ship packages daily, and HSI gives a quick and efficient way to schedule and track our shipments.

We're just launching our e-commerce Web site, and HSI is an important part of our success.  We have great confidence in being able to reach our customers quickly due to the speed of our service.  E-mail communication is vital to our growth, and HSI gives us the ability to make this possible.  Amy has Lollybean sales representatives who work with us from all over the country.  She communicates with them primary through e-mail due to our hectic schedules.

What other Verizon services do you have?
We have an HSI bundle that includes Internet and long distance calling. It was the easiest way to go.

Any final thoughts?

I just upgraded my Verizon Internet service to a faster level.  The new Internet upgrade is the 7M Freedom Double Bundle and the speed is 7.1M/768K.  I think this will only help us operate more efficiently.

There are a lot of choices in this market. But, it seems to me that Verizon has the best overall service and reliability for small businesses. So we stay with Verizon.
