We’ve told you about all the interactive football content on FiOS, made possible by our all-fiber network. So it shouldn’t come as a complete surprise that we’re using some of the same technology to expand the game-day experience for fans actually at the stadium.
The New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., is a good case in point. Home of the Jets and Giants, the New Meadowlands is one of the most technologically advanced in the country. Screens and other devices in the stadium are connected by Verizon’s fiber and wireless networks and by Cisco technology, which means that fans will enjoy the added benefit of video, player statistics and other information as they watch the game.
For example, four massive HD video display scoreboards and 2,200 HD video displays will give fans access to the game virtually anywhere in the stadium. Fans can check out the video displays for live game footage, team trivia, news and weather information, powered by Cisco technology.
The displays will easily change from Giants blue to Jets green with the push of a few buttons – so important when the stadium is home to two pro football teams.
We’re also teaming with Cisco to bring 34 channels of customized HD content into some areas of the facility over our Verizon fiber-optic network. Can’t get enough of ESPN HD and NFL RedZone HD? They’re among the channels that will be available inside the stadium.
The Giants and Jets are also working with Verizon Wireless to offer fans mobile apps with concession information, team news, player info, scores and highlights as well as alerts and text messaging.
An additional attraction inside the stadium is the new Verizon Studio, where fans will be able to see demos of wireless products and FiOS Internet and TV. If you’ve never seen 3D TV, this is the place to see it.
We think the New Meadowlands will become a model for other arenas, so if you have a chance to see a game there this season, let us know what you think.
