Boxing and mixed martial arts (MMA) fans are about to get an interactive ringside seat on FiOS TV with Showtime Sports Interactive. For industry-watchers, it's the first HD Interactive EBIF offering (more about that later).
Starting this Friday (Feb. 26) at 11 p.m. ET with Showtime's "Strikeforce Challengers" mixed martial arts event, FiOS TV HD customers who also subscribe to Showtime have the first look at this high-def interactive experience.
Showtime Sports Interactive gives our customers access to fighter stats, bios, ring records, fighter trivia games, interactive polling, fight calendars and more - all on your TV screen while
watching the event in FiOS TV HD. As soon as the fight starts, customers can click the "OK" button on the FiOS remote control to access all of the interactive features.
Verizon is the first to offer this nationwide interactive application, giving our customers just another experience cable doesn't offer.
For those interested in the technology, it uses EBIF (Enhanced TV Binary Interchange Format), the cable industry's accepted platform for the delivery of interactive services, which can run on all Verizon FiOS set-top boxes.
Some other firsts? How about the first-ever HD EBIF application and the first-ever EBIF experience that incorporates voting and polling? Verizon also was the first company to deploy a nationwide EBIF interactive TV application to all of its subscribers during the Winter Games.
Watch the fight this Friday, and check out the next one April 24 with the Super Six World Boxing ChampionshipThen let us know how interactivity changes your viewing experience.
