Verizon’s Commitment to DSL, Network and Customer Service

by Employee ‎12-10-2009 09:58 AM - edited ‎12-10-2009 11:11 AM

laptopOne of the most extensively deployed broadband services in the U.S. is Verizon's High Speed Internet (HSI) service.  The fact is that, if you live in a place where Verizon offers phone service, chances are you can get our DSL-based High Speed Internet (HSI) service.

We offer it to roughly 4 out of every 5 households we serve, and it's our most widely available form of broadband Internet service.  Customers like it because it provides reliable speeds and great value - a definite plus in today's economy.

This year alone, we've added HSI - with speeds of up to 1 megabits per second (Mbps) or 3 Mbps - to 161,000 more local phone lines.  We also introduced our fastest HSI service of up to 7.1 Mbps  to more than 450,000 additional lines, which means more than 10 million households can now get this speed.

These capital improvements are part of the $6.6 billion we invested in our wireline network this year.

Of course, service is a top priority, and we're doing some specific things to be sure that our HSI service is as reliable as possible and to respond to customers when needed:

  • Adding capacity to ensure the speed is adequate as customer usage increases,
  • Conducting frequent analysis of our entire wireline network, and upgrading and maintaining our equipment,
  • Operating a 24x7 network operations center to monitor all HSI customer activity,
  • Providing HSI sales and technical support seven days a week,
  • Establishing tools that spot network conditions that could temporarily disrupt service, and
  • Expanding our in-person technical visits for customers to provide them faster and more convenient service should a site visit be needed

Very soon, we'll introduce a version of our new online help tool -- the In-Home Agent -- for all HSI customers that allows them to more easily set up new computers and manage computer security and accomplish others tasks.

Thanks for the update.. anything more that you can do in terms of customer service and support online.. that works, and is user-friendly, is a great help.

In terms of social media, and the efforts that you appear to be targeting:  asking questions, addressing issues, and offering help are what people are looking for and interested in engaging with companies like Verizon.

You will get more activity on your blog and in your social accounts as you start to get more active in initiating these engagements.

Verizon still wants you to believe that the same quality service is offered with DSL...well the fact is...they do not. Fact is they don't even come close. They try to fill in the TV service with Direct TV where you get locked in for two years with a $480 diswconnect fee if you terminate early. Their DSL service is much slower than Brighthouse and prepare to be insulted when you deal with their customer service because customer service doesn't exist with Verizon. After spending a total of 8 hours on the phone to solve a problem...it never got resolved. it only took 15 minutes with Brighthouse to solve our problem.

Is there anyway to know when VZ  has plans to upgrade areas that are still limited to 3MB DSL?  Been calling every 6-9 months since its availability a few years ago & response has been simply its not available and no estimate when it will be. Some future forecast would be nice is all. FIOS likely wont be an option in my relatively small area so only option is DSL or cable for something faster.

Yeah, I live in an area where we get phone sercvice, but of course no DSL. And honestly about 1/2 a mile down the road they offer DSL. And there is a pretty good population that want DSL.  So I don't understand why they don't expand their DSL to where I live.  I have also contacted Verizon through email asking them if they know when they will offer it, but of course they say they don't know.  And anyone know when Verizon will be using that stimulus money they got to actually update rural areas to DSL, because I feel they should be using that money now.

@xxHopefulxx I agree, I have Verizon landline phone service but DSL isn't ever available. I've lived here for 6 years and keep calling them every 3 months or so and they always say in the future. It's still to this date not available and that's true cause down my street they have DSL. They only live 1/2 a mile too!!! They should expand their services.
