Over the past couple of years, Verizon customers have made it increasingly clear that they want entertainment on their own terms, at any time and on any device. We’ve listened, and we’ve delivered content on three screens – TV, computer and mobile devices – well ahead of the rest of the industry.
Beginning in 2005 with ESPN360, Verizon FiOS Internet and High Speed Internet broadband customers have had access to online services like Disney Connection, StarzPlay, YES Network and NFL Game Extra. This fall, we’ll also launch online content from EPIX, a new cross-platform premium service. In addition, every FiOS TV DVR subscriber also can search and watch online videos from blip.tv, Dailymotion and Veoh on their home-entertainment systems.
In addition, V CAST Video from Verizon Wireless now brings more than 100 full-length TV series from leading broadcast and cable providers to wireless phones.
We’re now extending this multi-screen leadership by launching our own trial of the industry’s “TV Everywhere” initiative, which will let pay TV subscribers watch content online from the premium and cable channels they already subscribe to. Cable providers have said they’ll hold TV Everywhere trials in the coming months.
Verizon’s trial will bring television programming online to FiOS TV subscribers. It will include content from Time Warner’s Turner Networks, TNT and TBS and will soon add content from other programmers. Trial participants will be able to use any broadband connection to watch programs on their personal computers or laptops at home or away. They’ll sign in with their Verizon Online user names and passwords to access the online programming at the networks’ Web sites.
Customer feedback from our trial will help us fine-tune the TV Everywhere user experience. It’s the next step in our commitment to bring customers the best TV experience no matter where and when they choose to watch.
