They say planting a tree is a sign of hope. We're partnering with American Forests to plant 5,000 trees, but in this case it's a sign of respect and gratitude.
As our chief sustainability officer reported in a recent blog, the Verizon green team -- a group of employees spread across 48 states in the U.S. and 20 countries -- hit a milestone of 5,000 members. We decided to celebrate by planting a tree in honor of every member. From finding ways to be greener at work to leading environmental efforts in their communities, these employees are sustainability champions.
So where will these trees be planted?
The Bugaboo Wildlife Rehabilitation in Florida and Georgia, and Los Padres National Forest in Southern California. It's expected that these trees will offset approximately 65,000 pounds of CO2 annually "which comes out to 2.6 million pounds of CO2 offset over a 40-year lifespan," Verizon's chief sustainability officer wrote in his blog. We’ll plant another 5,000 trees when another 5,000 employees join the green team.
