Widget Wednesday: Expect the unexpected with Thanksgiving travel this year

by Employee ‎11-25-2009 09:42 AM - edited ‎11-25-2009 09:46 AM

TWeatherBug.PNGhis week, it's over the river and through the woods to Grandmother's house we go.  Yes, Thanksgiving is here and the holiday travel season is upon us.

AAA reports that this Thanksgiving, 33.2 million Americans will travel by car, up 2.1 percent from last year.  Wherever your destination may be, if you're behind the wheel traffic and weather are sure to play a role in your holiday schedule.

FiOS TV subscribers have a couple of interactive Widgets at their fingertips to help plan holiday trips across town or across the nation.

If you're taking a longer holiday trip with the family and want to stay on top of the long-range forecast, the FiOS TV WeatherBug Widget lets you customize your weather reports by any ZIP

code, plus pull up hourly or seven-day forecasts.

FiOS TV subscribers who also subscribe to FiOS Internet can also view onscreen radar images to track approaching weather conditions as they develop.

Subscribers traveling in and around New York City, can launch our NYC 311 Widget to view real-time traffic around the five boroughs. Outside the NYC metro area, subscribers can check out the local traffic widget on FiOS TV to get customized traffic reports for their regions.

Probably the best part about our traffic and weather widgets is you can check them all out without missing a minute of your fa

vorite TV show.  No more waiting for TV newscasts or going to your computer to find a weather or traffic report.

If you're travelling this holiday, check the weather and traffic and stay safe.  Be sure to let us know how these Widgets may have helped in your plans.

WeatherBug is my most used Widget.  I do enjoy looking at "What is Hot" also.  Gives me some ideas of what I might want to watch.

Would be nice to expand "What is Hot" into some way of offering personalized suggestions based on what you like to record.  Hmmmmm!

Maybe we could customize the Widgets we see... Looking forward to more "useful" Widgets in the future.
