Widget Wednesday: New Games Added to Widget Bazaar

by Employee ‎11-04-2009 09:30 AM - edited ‎11-04-2009 09:33 AM

Chances are, when you hear the word "gamer" you may think of a late-teens or twenty-something guy immersed in a hard-hitting, multi-player game on $300 game console.  But there's another universe of "casual gamers" - men, women and young people of all ages who spend a part of every day playing cards, doing puzzles and playing other simple games online, on their phones or on console systems like Xbox or Wii.

And there are a lot of 'em.  A recent NielsenlGamePlay Metrics study (.pdf) found that 43 million Americans play casual games every day.

FiOS TV subscribers don't need an expensive console system to enjoy games on their TVs.  You'll find a growing selection of free games that can be accessed through our Widget Bazaar applications marketplace or under the Games menu on our IMG, including Chess, Solitaire, Sudoku and Word Builder.  Today we're adding two new free games to that collection - Reversi and Chinese Checkers.  We've rolled these games out in Texas and California and will offer them in other FiOS TV areas soon.

If you like to play games on you computer, you have some great choices too through Games on Demand on Verizon.net .  Casual game monthly subscription plans include more than 400 games for under $5 or unlimited access to more than 1,500 games for $14.99 a month.  With puzzle, action/adventure, strategy, role-playing, multi-player, simulation and arcade games, Verizon's Games on Demand has budget-saving games for every member of the family.

We'll keep you up to date with the lastest Widget news each week, here on the AtHome blog.

And take a couple of minutes for yourself and try some of these games.  Then let us know what you think of games on FiOS TV or online.
