Watch the Little League World Series in 3D on FiOS TV

by Employee ‎08-24-2011 04:00 PM - edited ‎08-24-2011 04:01 PM

If you’re a baseball fan, there’s nothing like the Little League World Series.  It’s fun to watch skilled 11- and 12-year-olds play ball for the honor of their town, region or country.

Now, there’s another dimension to the Little League experience – a third dimension, to be exact. ESPN 3D is telecasting several Little League World Series games in 3D this week, and FiOS TV 3D customers have a front-row seat.

ESPN 3D is included in the FiOS TV Ultimate HD package.  If you have a 3DTV, the cool compatible glasses and HD-capable set to box with an HDMI connection, you’re in business.  Just check out the broadcast schedule and tune to channel 1002 to watch the first pitch.

Ultimate devices need an ultimate network, and Verizon’s all-fiber-optic network now delivers more exciting 3D content for customers to enjoy on their 3D TVs.

First, we expect to launch ESPN 3D on Tuesday, April 5, on channel 1002, just in time for the Masters Golf tournament.  With 3D, it’ll be the next best thing to walking over the pine needles with patrons at the Augusta National Golf Club.

ESPN 3D can be viewed by customers who have a 3D TV set, 3D glasses and a high-definition set-top box.  The new channel is included for any FiOS TV customer who subscribes to our Ultimate HD package, and is available to everyone else on its own for $9.99 per month.

A lot of you have asked us about FiOS TV’s plans for 3D.  And today we have some great news.  This Thursday, March 3, FiOS TV will air the first ever Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) event in 3D.  The 3D telecast will air live on VERSUS at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

The highly anticipated card is headlined by a welterweight clash between Diego Sanchez and Martin Kampmann, from the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Ky.  The telecast will feature play-by-play from veteran Todd Harris, along with UFC featherweight star Kenny Florian.

Thinking About 3D TV? Verizon Has Helpful Resources

3D TV—do you remember when this technology seemed like light years away? Well, that’s not the case any more, and with prices dropping, more and more of you are adopting 3D.

Citing two research firms, IPTVNews reports that sales of 3D TVs are growing. Interest in 3DTV has more than doubled since January 2010 according to Infogroup/ORC, a global market research group. Additionally, Futuresource Consulting is predicting that global sales of 3DTVs will exceed 4 million this year. Futuresource also predicts that more than 5 million 3DTVs are expected to be sold next year in the US

1405iD5E677C292B4A334We’ve told you about all the interactive football content on FiOS, made possible by our all-fiber network. So it shouldn’t come as a complete surprise that we’re using some of the same technology to expand the game-day experience for fans actually at the stadium.

The New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., is a good case in point. Home of the Jets and Giants, the New Meadowlands is one of the most technologically advanced in the country. Screens and other devices in the stadium are connected by Verizon’s fiber and wireless networks and by Cisco technology, which means that fans will enjoy the added benefit of video, player statistics and other information as they watch the game.
