Verizon has once again shown its leadership in consumer broadband with its recent decision to increase FiOS Internet upload speeds to match the download speeds. Guest Post by Christopher Levendos, Vice President - National Operations You could say New York City has become Fiber Town, U.S.A. That’s not an exaggeration. Verizon has deployed more than 17,000 miles of fiber optics throughout the five boroughs of New York City. You could stretch that much fiber from NYC to L.A. six times.

To help explain why fiber optics matters to New Yorkers, we created this short video. Enjoy!

As a dad of young daughters, it’s fun helping to bridge the generational gap between them and my 86-year-old father.  My kids “get” Skype; love to FaceTime with close friends (with parental supervision); and find apps with ease on the family iPad.

On the flip side, my dad loves seeing photos and videos of grandkids on my Facebook account, but don’t dare text him; write him a thank-you note via email; or ask him to Tweet.

Considering each generation exhibits its own technological fluency, how does a company like mine showcase the benefits of using our flagship FiOS Internet and FiOS TV services to savvy, technologically fluent consumers who prefer living in apartments or condos vs. the ’burbs?

Does fiber-optic technology really matter to consumers? Verizon’s Link Hoewing asks this question in a new post at the Verizon PolicyBlog.  For a long time, Link says, he’s believed that consumers understand that fiber makes a big difference in terms of quality, reliability, capability and performance.  Now, there’s research from the Fiber to the Home Council to support his theory.

Link describes the research and explains why consumers believe fiber is a better technology.  Read the rest of Link's post to see why.
