141202_ISPRank.pngEvery year, PCMag surveys hundreds of thousands of everyday users to find out which ISP is best delivering the speeds they need to power their lives. Once again, our customers indicated that Verizon FiOS Internet delivered the fastest connections in the nation.

Our customers are game changers, creators, and impact makers, so this is why we are humbled to be able to provide them with the speediest, most reliable connections they need today and well into the future.

Have you got a tablet in your household? Today, it seems hard to find a household that doesn’t have a Kindle, iPad or Samsung Galaxy tablet, just to name a few.  If you don’t own one, chances are, it won’t be long before you join the tablet club.

If you don’t own one, chances are, it won’t be long before you join the tablet club.  In a story in USA Today on May 29, noted research firm IDC says tablets will outstrip PC sales this year and by 2015, will outpace the combined PC market.

5 Tips to Speed up Your Home Broadband Network

The following is a guest blog by Bob Elek, a Tampa-based member of Verizon’s PR team.

Post-up, box-out, lay-up, drive the lane, dunk, hoist up a trey – we’re about to see the many basketball moves that together help bring the madness to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship.  And thanks to Turner Sports and CBS Sports, you’ll have a different screen for every possible play available to you throughout the tournament.

The Flintstones Coming Of Age Story

My wife and I are pretty old-fashioned when it comes to technology.  But does that make us prehistoric techies?  Not exactly.

Picked Off2 small.jpgTonight at 10 p.m.ET, a new series premieres on HISTORY. I't's called "Picked Off" and it's like a scavenger hunt for amateur antiquers. If you are a FiOS TV and Internet customer, you can use a very cool feature that enables you to buy replicas of some of the items on the show just by using your FiOS TV remote.

Speed Guy flying.JPGIf you've seen the FiOS Speed guy in action, I'll bet you were blown away. Well, you might be just as amazed at how the 4-minute video was made. Amazed, or at least mildly interested. Either way, here's a behind-the-scenes look at a very cool video.

Speed Guy on ledge.JPGFiOS Speed Guy has taken off, helping us promote the insane new speeds of our FiOS Quantum Internet service. Watch this guy zip around the world and fly right into your house! This guy is amazing. So's our new FiOS Quantum service.

STN-Hawaii.jpgDo you love our products and services? Well, if you let other people know about them you could win a dream vacation to Hawaii. Our sales referral program, called Shared The Network, offers participants a chance to win a fabulous trip to Hawaii and some other terrific prizes.

As a dad of young daughters, it’s fun helping to bridge the generational gap between them and my 86-year-old father.  My kids “get” Skype; love to FaceTime with close friends (with parental supervision); and find apps with ease on the family iPad.

On the flip side, my dad loves seeing photos and videos of grandkids on my Facebook account, but don’t dare text him; write him a thank-you note via email; or ask him to Tweet.

Considering each generation exhibits its own technological fluency, how does a company like mine showcase the benefits of using our flagship FiOS Internet and FiOS TV services to savvy, technologically fluent consumers who prefer living in apartments or condos vs. the ’burbs?

Work and Home.jpg

My colleague Stefanie Scott continues her ongoing look at the future of work, or perhaps more accurately, the future of the work “place.”

Her most recent interviews with professionals who work at the office, home, on the road – anywhere really – examines employer attitudes about managing employees who work from home.

We’ve examined here at Verizon At Home how technology has helped employers feel more comfortable with mobile employees and how consumers have impacted the tools companies use to get work done.

American families are using more and more broadband-enabled devices, including game consoles, IP-based TVs, smartphones, PCs, notebooks and tablets to make life’s daily juggle easier.

In fact, families not only have more devices in their homes, they’re also using them simultaneously, creating greater demands on the home’s broadband network.  Broadband, and specifically Fiber to the Home broadband like that of Verizon’s FiOS, is shifting how families connect and consume entertainment and information.

On Wednesday, Sept. 28, you’re invited to join our next ‘Meet the Expert’ real-time chat with Ann Shaub, one of our passionate directors of product management.

Celebrating the Enjoyment and Power of Wireline Broadband

by ‎08-03-2011 08:46 AM - edited ‎08-03-2011 08:53 AM

My family and I just returned from an island vacation where we stayed in the middle of the woods.  Everything was wonderful, but it took less than an hour to realize something was missing – a wired or wireless broadband connection in our rental.

Had it not been our vacation and a time to unwind, the situation would have been unimaginable to a family used to a super-fast, reliable FiOS Internet connection at our home that we use for online gaming on multiple devices, downloading data, uploading photos and streaming high-def video.

A ‘Dumb Pipe’ vs. Intelligent Networks

by Employee ‎03-08-2011 10:44 AM - edited ‎03-08-2011 10:45 AM

Last Sunday, the New York Times examined Hong Kong City Telecom and its $26 one-gigabit consumer broadband service.

Online discussions of the story are fascinating, as savvy technophiles quickly caught on to issues with the Hong Kong service, particularly “advertised speed” versus “delivered speed.” What you see many not be exactly what you get.

There’s a lot behind the Times story that readers unfortunately also didn’t get – especially when it comes to their comparison of the Chinese service and Verizon FiOS Internet.

woman_laptop.jpgOn the heels of outperforming our East Coast competitors for the third year in a row for video services as cited by J.D. Power and Associates, our broadband Internet services have scooped up additional recognition from J.D. Power.

Verizon’s consumer broadband services – FiOS Internet and High Speed Internet (HSI) –outperformed all our competitors when it comes to overall customer satisfaction in the South region, according to the J.D. Power and Associates’ “2010 Internet Service Provider Residential Customer Satisfaction StudySM” released Thursday.

Verizon landline operations in Florida and Texas are considered part of the J.D. Power South region, and our broadband services outscored 12 other providers -- including our chief Florida competitor Bright House-- in overall satisfaction and two critical factors: performance and reliability, and offerings and promotions.

Live Streaming from CNN and HLN Now on FiOS TV Online

by ‎09-21-2010 11:32 AM - edited ‎09-22-2010 10:12 AM

CNN_new.gifWe’ve made a number of additions to FiOS TV Online in the last month, with new online programming from truTV, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim and – most recently – MAX GO from Cinemax.  Also joining the site recently is CNN and HLN, which are now broadcasting live for FiOS customers.

You heard right – Verizon’s FiOS TV customers now have online access to 24/7 live streaming from CNN and HLN, with CNN airing during the day and HLN in the evening and overnight hours.

For the 5th year in a row, Verizon’s FiOS Internet service has won the coveted Reader’s Choice Award from, beating out all cable competitors again this year.

FiOS Internet’s speed and reliability once again earned the highest marks from readers, with Verizon earning higher ratings than cable modem competitors with a 9.0 out of a possible high score of 10 points for speed and a nearly identical ranking of 8.9 for reliability.  The speed rating from readers reinforces the magazine’s report in June that bestowed the title of Fastest ISP in the Nation on Verizon FiOS.

High Ratings for Fiber to the Home Services in New Survey

by ‎08-12-2010 04:36 PM - edited ‎08-12-2010 04:38 PM

1371i33A6A8C79BC3C0D4We like to remind people that FiOS is a fiber to the home service. Not fiber to the neighborhood or to some other place in the feeder network. But fiber all the way to the home.

The distinction is important because FTTH offers advantages over other forms of consumer broadband. That’s why some recent survey results really got our attention.

According to a survey (pdf) commissioned by the Fiber to the Home Council, subscribers to fiber-to-the-home services like FiOS report higher satisfaction rates than consumers of other broadband access technologies. Read more...

Surviving the Dog Days of Summer

by on ‎08-06-2010 12:07 PM

August. The big summer theatrical releases are out, you’ve grown tired of your summer reading list, vacations have come and gone, and the heat is even more unbearable.

Fortunately, you live in the 21st century and have access to some of the greatest inventions of all time, such as air conditioning, HDTVs, laptops and, of course, Verizon FiOS -- all of which set the stage for your escape from the dog days of summer. In fact, if you consider everything included with your FiOS package, there’s enough to keep you entertained for quite some time: Read more...

1250i0A4F19B1B71AFE6D Violent popping sounds pepper the air as you crouch behind a rusty warehouse, rifle in hand, listening for footsteps. The enemy base is just a building away, but you’ve only got a few rounds of ammo left. You’re waiting for the perfect moment.

Suddenly, footsteps behind you. You try to turn around, but are strangely sluggish on your feet. You see an enemy rushing toward you, and as he starts to fire, everything goes wrong. His movements become jerky, and aiming your weapon is like moving through peanut butter. The image freezes, and by the time it’s back, you’re finished.

The gamers out there will no doubt be familiar with this frustrating scenario – sometimes your Internet connection simply can’t keep up with the action on screen. In games, this doesn’t just make for a less enjoyable experience, it can completely ruin your experience. That’s why one of the major benefits of FiOS Internet is having a pipe big enough to handle fast-paced action. Read more...

FiOS in the Morning on WOR

by Employee on ‎03-01-2010 03:17 PM

Although some of the conversation naturally was about FiOS in the New York City area, they had plenty to say about FiOS overall, including a look ahead at new services. Read more...

While I didn't touch my first computer until I was in college, my girls mastered their first mouse before they reached second grade. On certain occasions, including drive time, my wife allows them to text some of her friends on her Verizon smart phone. Read more...

Fiber Is the Future

by Employee on ‎02-16-2010 02:36 PM

fibersmall.JPGVerizon's all-fiber-optic network really is special. We've commented here many times before on how fiber-based service creates superior TV and Internet experiences.

Did you know, though, how dynamic the Verizon fiber network is? And did you know that fiber is catching on all over the country among all kinds of service providers?

For starters, here are some figures regarding the Verizon fiber network.... Read more...

‘Can You Really Get Those Speeds?'

by Employee ‎02-02-2010 02:16 PM - edited ‎02-02-2010 02:18 PM

Multichannel News shoots off skyrockets and throws confetti around its survey showing cable's rapid build outs of DOCSIS 3.0. And at Broadband Reports, there's much discussion of cable-provided Internet speeds of up to 105 megabits per second (Mbps), along with some commentary that the market is not ready for speeds that fast. And there is discussion of cable resetting its speed tiers in parity with Verizon's downstream speeds (NOT upstream, though; Verizon can do 35 Mbps upstream and cable can't touch that). Read more...
